Mineral Insulated RTDs, 650 °C Max Temp, Versatile Applications
Product Overview
- Series ID Series-R
Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series R & 8 Mineral Insulated RTDs and Thermocouples are engineered for temperature sensing applications requiring excellent mechanical durability and resistance to electrical breakdown. The mineral insulated construction allows the probes to be bent to most any angle without special equipment, supporting versatile installation configurations.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series supports a maximum process temperature of 650 °C as indicated in the product title. Sheath materials are available in 304 SS, 316 SS, and Inconel® 600 to accommodate different environmental conditions.
Configuration Options
The Series R & 8 offers a configurable model number structure allowing selection across sensor type, hardware, extension, terminals, elements, junctions, bend radius, and head assemblies. Key configuration options include:
- Sensor Type: Thermocouple (code R) or RTD/Thermocouple combination (code 8).
- RTD Specifications: Available as 100 Ω RTDs with temperature coefficients of 0.00385 Ω/°C or 0.00392 Ω/°C.
- Sensor Hardware (Sheath): Plain sheath options in 304 SS, 316 SS, and Inconel® 600; also includes T/C specific hardware types.
- Extension Types: Fiberglass singles, fiberglass insulation, fiberglass with stainless steel flex hose, or fiberglass with stainless steel overbraid.
- Sensor Terminals: Options include stripped ends, #6 spade lugs (with or without 1/2" BX), standard plugs/jacks, mini plugs/jacks, leads with 1/4" fastabs, and process connections such as 1/2" NPT hex nipples/bushings or 3/4" NPT hex nipples/bushings in 316 SS.
- Elements: Single or dual element configurations.
- Junction Types: Grounded, ungrounded, or exposed tip.
- Sensor Bend O.D.: Configurable from none to 3/8" bend radii (1/16", 1/8", 3/16", 1/4").
- Head Assembly Options: Screw cover or snap cover heads in aluminum, plastic, or stainless steel. Process connections include no connection, 1/2" NPT, and 3/4" NPT conduit connections.
- RTD Type Codes: Supports 2-wire, 3-wire, and 4-wire configurations in Class A or Class B accuracy classes.
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes between Thermocouple-only models (Series R) and combined RTD/Thermocouple capabilities (Series 8). Model number construction requires filling all boxes, using '0' for items or dimensions that do not apply. Specific variations are defined by the selected sensor type code (e.g., J, K, E, T for thermocouples; specific codes for RTD resistance and alpha values) and the chosen hardware configuration.
