Supported Applications

The Series IS/PX/TX Insite™ In-Line Flowmeter is an air/liquid variable-area flowmeter available in PVC, aluminum, brass, or 316 stainless steel. It offers direct reading in English or metric units, can be mounted in any position, and has a low pressure drop of 0.27 bar at full-scale flow. Optional electric switches are available for high and low alarms.

The variety of body and fitting materials lets the meter serve many media, including process water, compressed air, nitrogen blanketing and purging, potable water, deionized and ultra pure water, and water-treatment chemistry such as clarification (aluminum sulfate, ferric chloride), disinfection (chlorinated water, potassium permanganate, chlorine dioxide), dechlorination (sodium bisulfate, sulfur dioxide), and neutralization (sodium hydroxide).

Operating Conditions & Performance

Accuracy is ±5% FS, and ±7% FS on the 3 GPM range. Maximum pressure depends on material and fluid temperature:

• PVC construction: liquid to 13.79 bar and air to 4.1 bar at 21°C.
• Polysulfone with 316 SS fittings: liquid to 13.8 bar and air to 4.1 bar at up to 99°C.
• Polysulfone with PVDF fittings: liquid to 10.35 bar at up to 49°C.

PVC bodies are rated for fluid temperatures up to 125°F. Flow ranges cover 3 to 50 GPM water (with metric equivalents from 20 to 200 LPM) and air from 50 to 500 SCFM (up to 3600 SLPM). Process connections are selectable at 1/2" (low range only), 3/4", 1", and 1-1/2" (high range only). An optional 3-wire reed switch is rated 0.3 A @ 120 VAC/100 VDC, wired through a 1/2" NPTF conduit connection.

Wetted materials are a PVC or Polysulfone flowtube, aluminum, brass, 316 SS, PVC, or PVDF fittings, and a Viton® seal. The meter weighs 0.8 to 2.6 lb (0.36 to 1.09 kg). The air flowmeter is calibrated at 90 psi pressure and 70°F temperature; at other conditions the correction factors from the pressure and temperature tables must be applied. A 74 micron filter or 200 mesh screen is recommended to avoid meter contamination and premature wear.

Configuration Options

The IS, PX, and TX families share the same in-line variable-area principle but are configured for different materials, ranges, and switch options.

• Materials: the flowtube is PVC or Polysulfone, the fittings are aluminum, brass, 316 SS, PVC, or PVDF, and the seal is Viton®, letting the meter be matched to the process chemistry.
• Range and connection: low-range meters use the 1/2" process connection while high-range meters use the 1-1/2" connection.
• Switching: an optional field-adjustable reed switch can be installed with one or two switch kits for high and low alarms.
• IS-only options: an electropolished stainless steel shaft and spring and a stainless steel identification tag are available on IS builds.
