The Dwyer Series 1241, 1243, and 1244 are flanged chamber liquid level switches designed for industrial process control. These units utilize a removable stainless steel float enclosed within a carbon steel chamber to monitor fluid levels in oil refineries, chemical plants, power stations, and other facilities requiring robust liquid level detection.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series is engineered for high-pressure service with specific temperature-dependent ratings. The pressure rating is 1440 psig (99 bar) at 100°F (38°C), reducing to 1275 psi (87.9 bar) at 475°F (246°C). Operation requires a minimum liquid specific gravity of 0.60.
Switch operation relies on the magnetic attraction between a plunger attached to the float and magnets in the switch assembly. As the fluid level rises or falls, the float moves vertically within the chamber, actuating single-stage or two-stage switches via this magnetic coupling without direct contact with the process media inside the enclosure.
Configuration Options
The series offers configurable housings, circuit arrangements, and construction materials to meet diverse installation requirements:
- Housing Types: General purpose (G) NEMA-1; Weatherproof (WT) NEMA-3R, 4, 4X; Explosion-proof (E) NEMA-7, 9 for Class I Groups B, C, D and Class II Groups E, F, G; Explosion-proof Vapor-proof (EV) with the same hazardous location ratings.
- Process Connections: Standard 1" NPT pipe connections are available. Flanged options include Series 1243 with side/bottom 600# flanges and Series 1244 with side/side 600# flanges.
- Circuit Configurations: Available in single-stage or two-stage operation using mercury contacts (SPST, SPDT, DPDT) or snap-action switches. High-capacity DC snap switches are offered for specific applications.
- Materials of Construction: Standard chambers feature carbon steel bodies with 303SS/304SS trim and a stainless steel float. Optional C216 construction provides a 316 SS chamber, 316 SS trim, and 430 SS armature.
- Special Options: High temperature fins (HF) are recommended if ambient temperatures are extreme or process temperatures exceed 500°F (260°C). A breather and drain option is available for E-type enclosures in high humidity or outdoor service.
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes models primarily by chamber connection geometry while maintaining identical pressure ratings:
- Series 1241: Features a flanged carbon steel chamber with standard side/bottom process connections via 1" NPT hubs.
- Series 1243: Utilizes the same chamber construction but incorporates 1" 600# flanges for both side and bottom process connections.
- Series 1244: Configured with 1" 600# flanges on both sides (side/side) to accommodate specific piping layouts.
