Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series 1211, 1213, and 1214 are flanged chamber external mount liquid level switches designed for industrial control. These units operate via a magnetic plunger and float mechanism to monitor levels in oil refineries, chemical plants, power generating stations, pumping stations, heat transfer systems, sanitary/waste water facilities, drip legs, hydraulic systems, and boilers.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series is rated for a minimum specific gravity of 0.40. Pressure ratings vary by model: Series 1211 supports up to 450 psig (31 bar) at 100°F (38°C), derating to 300 psi (21 bar) at 500°F (260°C). Process temperatures range from ambient conditions up to 500°F (260°C); for high-capacity DC snap switches, heat fins are recommended if the process temperature exceeds 350°F (177°C), with a maximum limit of 450°F (232°C).
Switch operation is defined by fixed deadbands. For single-stage and two-stage configurations on Series 1211, 1213, and 1214 at 0.4 specific gravity:
- Single Stage Operation: Level change A* = 6-1/2" (165 mm), B = 5/8" (16 mm).
- Two Stage Operation: Level changes include C = 7-3/4" (197 mm), D = 1-1/2" (38 mm), and E = 1-1/4" (32 mm). Note that A* is not adjustable.
The series offers a repeatability of ±1/4" (6.4 mm).
Configuration Options
Selectable configurations include enclosure types, circuit arrangements, chamber construction materials, and process connections to meet specific installation requirements.
- Enclosures: Available in General Purpose (G) NEMA-1; Weather Proof (WT) NEMA-3R, 4, 4X; Explosion-proof (E) NEMA-7, 9 for Class I Groups B, C, D and Class II Groups E, F, G; and Explosion-proof Vapor-proof (EV).
- Switch Types: Options include mercury contacts or snap-action switches. Circuit configurations support SPST, SPDT, DP-ST, and DP-DT arrangements with single-stage or two-stage operation.
- Process Connections: Standard 1" NPT pipe connections (side/bottom) are available on Series 1211. Flanged options include 150#, 300#, and 600# flanges for side/bottom or side/side mounting depending on the model.
- Materials: Chambers are constructed of carbon steel with trim in 303SS, 304SS, and 430SS. Optional materials include a 316SS chamber and trim (C216) or a 1" socket weld hub instead of the standard NPT connection.
- Approvals: UL and CSA certified for specified hazardous locations where applicable to the enclosure type.
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes models by flange class, pressure rating at elevated temperatures, and connection orientation. Series 1211 utilizes a standard 1" NPT hub with side/bottom connections rated to 450 psig (31 bar) at 100°F. Series 1213 offers 1" flanged process connections in 150#, 300#, and 600# classes, maintaining the same pressure ratings as Series 1211 but with side/bottom mounting options.
Series 1214 provides similar flange class options (150#, 300#, 600#) configured for side/side process connections. All three series share a minimum specific gravity of 0.40 and the same temperature derating curve from 450 psig at 100°F to 300 psi at 500°F.
