The Omega MTO-3 Series is a lightweight oil immersion heater designed with a three-element construction for heating applications involving light oils. The series features a 0.475" diameter sheath and utilizes a 2½ NPT steel screw plug process connection.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The MTO-3 Series operates across wattage ratings from 3 to 9 kW with power supply options of 120, 208, 240, or 480V in both single and three-phase configurations. Watt density ranges between 23–26 W/in² depending on the specific model selection.

Element lengths vary by wattage rating as documented:

• 3 kW models: Element length of 17¼ (44) cm
• 3.75 kW models: Element length of 19⅝ (48) cm
• 4.5 kW models: Element length of 24⅝ (62) cm
• 6 kW models: Element length of 32¼ (82) cm
• 7.5 kW models: Element length of 39¾ (101) cm
• 9 kW models: Element length of 47¼ (120) cm

The series is UL Listed and CSA Certified, with NRTL/C certification available for specific enclosure types. Higher wattage ratings are noted as available upon consultation.

Safety & Installation Notes

• Heaters should be used with an approved temperature control device to assure safe operation.
• The E2 Moisture Resistant/Explosion Resistant construction provides explosion resisting containment of electrical wiring according to the National Electric Code but is not intended for use in hazardous areas.
• Abnormal application or excessive temperatures can create hazardous conditions leading to fire.

Configuration Options

The series offers two primary enclosure configurations:

• E1 General Purpose Enclosure: NEMA-1 rated, UL listed. Weighs 6 lb (3 kg) for lower wattage models up to 9 lb (4 kg) or higher depending on configuration.
• E2 Moisture Resistant/Explosion Resistant Terminal Enclosure: CSA NRTL/C Certified. Weights range from 9 lb (4 kg) to 14 lb (6 kg).

To specify three-phase power, the suffix "3P" is added to the model number. The series supports a wide array of voltage and wattage combinations within the documented ranges.

Key Product Differences

The MTO-3 Series distinguishes itself by enclosure type (E1 vs. E2) and electrical configuration. Model numbers follow the format MTO-<kW><A/E>/<VOLTS>, where 'A' denotes the General Purpose Enclosure and 'E2' denotes the Moisture Resistant/Explosion Resistant enclosure.

For example, a 3 kW heater at 240V with an E1 enclosure is designated MTO-330A/240. The same wattage and voltage in an E2 enclosure is designated MTO-330E2/240. Three-phase variants append the "3P" suffix to these base model numbers.
