Supported Applications
The Omega HSTC series consists of hermetically sealed tip insulated thermocouples designed for sanitary applications. These ready-made PFA-insulated sensors are engineered to offer chemical and oil resistance, electrical insulation, ease of cleaning, and sterilization capabilities.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The HSTC series operates within a measurement range of -200°C to 250°C (-328°F to 482°F), with an operating process temperature up to 250°C (482°F). Accuracy meets or exceeds IEC 60584-2, Tolerance Class 1, specified as ±1.5°C or ±1.5% of reading (whichever is greater).
The sensor tip diameter measures 1.6 mm (0.063 in), providing a fast response due to the small size. The wetted material and sheath are constructed from PFA, which provides high resilience against chemicals and oils.
Configuration Options
The series supports multiple thermocouple calibrations including Type J, K, T, or E. Configurations vary by wire gauge, length, and electrical connection type.
- Wire Gauge: Standard 24 AWG stranded; a 20 AWG stranded version is available for longer lengths at additional cost.
- Lengths: Available in various standard lengths (e.g., 1 m/40", 2 m/80", 3 m/120") and custom lengths. An option exists to add 300 mm (12") of TT wire for additional cost.
- Electrical Connections: Standard stripped leads or optional connectors including SMPW-CC ultimate connector, OSTW-CC ultimate connector, and the MWTC-D-K-915 miniature wireless smart connector series for wireless transmission.
- Housing/Overbraid: Metal overbraid is available as an option.
The model number construction follows the format HSTC-TT-<CALIBRATION>-<LENGTH>-<CONNECTOR>. For example, replacing 'SMPW' with 'OSTW' in the model number orders a full-size connector at no additional charge.
Key Product Differences
Variants within the HSTC series are distinguished by thermocouple type (J, K, T, E), wire gauge (24S vs. 20S), and termination style. Models ending in stripped leads provide bare ends for direct connection or custom wiring.
- Connector Options: Variants with the SMPW-CC suffix include an ultimate mini male connector with strain relief; variants with OSTW-CC feature a full-size connector.
- Wireless Option: Specific configurations support wireless transmission via the MWTC-D-K-915 miniature wireless smart connector series.

Best inert thermocouple I've used
Hands down the best inert thermocouple I've used thus far. Our chemicals are very corrosive, so we were hard pressed to find a temperature probe that would work. Even coated, the sensitivity is great and consistency between the probes is great too. If I need more, I'm ordering this exact product again.

Good thermocouple
Good thermocouple. Wires are protected and don't feel like they will break easily.

EXPECTATIONS EXCEEDED!!
I have ordered items from Omega several times over the last few months. These guys are AWESOME when it comes to customer service. Wether its been about
determining selection of a specific component in reference to our application or technical support of programming of soak controllers. Omega has consistently exceeded our expectations.

What is the maximum diameter of the HSTC-TT-T-24S-36-SMPW-CC wire and the sensor's accuracy?
Thank you for your inquiry. The maximum nominal size of the wire (w x h) is 0.063" x 0.102". The accuracy is 0.5 C or 0.4 % whichever value is greater.

Will this thermocouple still work if exposed to sulfuric acid?
The Teflon is insulation is resistant to acids and oils.

can this thermocouple be submerged in water?
Thank you for your inquiry Lili. Yes, this thermocouple can be submerged in water. Please note that it cannot be submerged near the end where the two wires come out of the insulation.

HSTC-TT-T-24S-36-SMPW-CC, overall diameter of this wire?
Thank you for your inquiry. The wire is not circular in shape, it's oval. The nominal size of the wire (w x h) is 0.063" x 0.102"

Can any of these hermetically sealed tip thermocouples withstand temperatures below 0°C? If so what is the minimum temperature?
Thank you for your inquiry JK018. The HSTC series is tested and guaranteed to measure temperatures accurately between 0 to 260 C. This thermocouple is made with Special Limits of Error (SLE) wire. Special Limits of Error Wire (SLE) made products are only spec’d out for temperatures above 32°F (0°C). So, anything below 32°F (0°C) does not comply with the SLE specification. You can accurately measured temperatures down to -80 C if you get a CAL-4 Calibration at an additional cost for temperatures below 0°C.

Can the tip (~1/4") be bent 90 degree to fit into a cavity?
Thank you for your inquiry. The HSTC series probes can only be bent after the first 2" starting from the probe tip.

If i choose T thermocouples from this type, can i measure temperatures in the range between-38°C and 0 °C. Thanks
Like this sensor, Special Limits Of Error Wire (SLE) made products are only spec’d out for temperatures above 32°F (0°C). So anything below 32°F (0°C) does not comply with the SLE specification. Does this mean that measuring below 0°C is not possible? No. It just means that the accuracy is no longer linear below 0°C.

will this sensor (type K) work with the TX13 transmitter down to a temperature of -80 deg c
Hi Joe
Thank you for the inquiry. Type K material is not tested below 0 C so the accuracy at -80 C would be suspect.
Best regards
OMEGA
