Supported Applications
The Omega FTB700-Series consists of flanged-mounted inline turbine flow meters designed for measuring fluid flow in pipes ranging from 2" to 8". These precision instruments are engineered specifically for water and water-based fluids, as well as non-lubricating fluids. The series identity is defined by a single moving part—a helical rotor—utilizing high-quality jewel bearings (sapphire journal with ruby endstone) to ensure long life in these media.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The FTB700-Series offers two primary body material configurations, each with distinct operating envelopes:
- PVC Body Meters (Sizes 2"–6"): Rated for a maximum process temperature of 120°F (50°C). The pressure rating is 150 psi @ 75°F (10 bar @ 24°C), with derating required at higher temperatures.
- Carbon Steel Body Meters (Sizes 2"–8"): Rated for a maximum process temperature of 200°F (93°C). The pressure rating is 200 psi (14 bar).
Accuracy across the series is specified as +/- 1% of full scale. Flow ranges vary by pipe size and material, spanning from 2 to 150 GPM for 2" meters up to 30–3000 GPM for 8" carbon steel models.
Configuration Options
The series supports multiple electronic configurations and mechanical options tailored to specific installation needs:
- Sensor & Electronics Options:
- Pulse Output (0–75 pulse/second current sinking)
- FTB700-D: Powered Rate/Totalizer with 6-digit autorange rate and 8-digit total display; includes NEMA 4X enclosure.
- FTB700-T: Blind 4–20 mA transmitter (isolated) with response time of 3 sec, 95% FS or configurable averaging (2–60 seconds).
- Process Connections: PVC models feature optional flanges; Carbon steel models utilize 150 lb. drilling for sizes 3" through 8".
- Wetted Materials: Turbine inserts are CF8M cast stainless (Carbon) or solid PVC (PVC). Rotors are PVDF, with shafts made of Zirconia ceramic (sizes 3"–6" for PVC; 3"–8" for Carbon) and Tungsten Carbide (2").
- Electrical: Standard cable is #22 AWG 3-conductor, 18' long with a maximum run of 2000'. Power requirements vary by option: 6–24 Vdc for pulse output; 12–32 Vdc or 24–32 Vdc (for accuracy) for the FTB700-D; and 24–36 Vdc isolated for the FTB700-T.
Key Product Differences
The series is differentiated by body material, pipe size availability, and electronic integration:
- PVC Configuration (FTB7xx): Available in 2", 3", 4", and 6" sizes. These models utilize PVC Schedule 80 fittings for the meter body and solid PVC turbine inserts.
- Carbon Steel Configuration: Available in 2", 3", 4", 6", and 8" sizes. The meter body is painted carbon steel with CF8M cast stainless turbine inserts, offering higher temperature (up to 200°F) and pressure ratings.
- Electronic Models: Base models provide pulse output only. The FTB700-D variant adds a powered rate/totalizer display within a rugged cast aluminum housing rated NEMA 4X. The FTB700-T variant provides an isolated blind 4–20 mA analog transmitter.

What is the estimated life span of this meter? Documentation says "maximum life" but I can't find an estimate.
The lifespan of the meter depends on its operating conditions, but with proper use, it can last for many years. The main limiting factor is worn turbine bearings, which affect accuracy, and exposure to solids or harsh environments can shorten its life. However, the key components like the turbine and sensor are replaceable. In ideal conditions the meter can last up to 10 years.
