Supported Applications

The Omega DCT-Series comprises angular pneumatic grippers featuring a compact design intended for use in confined spaces. These DIRECTCONNECT™ series units provide full jaw opening (180°), allowing parts to be direct-fed into the gripper and eliminating an additional motion step. The construction includes shielding designed to repel chips, supporting operation in harsh environments.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The DCT-Series operates on a dry filtered air supply (40 microns or better) within a pressure range of 3 to 7 bar (40 to 100 psi). A 4-way, 2-position pneumatic control valve is required for actuation. Ambient temperature ratings are -35 to 80°C (-30 to 180°F) with standard seals and -30 to 150°C (-20 to 300°F) when configured with optional FKM seals.

Performance specifications vary by model size. Repeatability is ±0.05 mm (±0.002") across the series. Accuracy is listed as ±0.07 mm (±0.0028") for DCT-12M and DCT-16M models, while the DCT-20M lists an accuracy of ±0.08 mm (±0.003"). Actuation times range from 0.06 sec to 0.16 sec depending on the model.

Each finger provides 90° of stroke, resulting in a total angular movement capability. The series is rated for up to 5 million cycles in typical applications and 10 million with maintenance.

Configuration Options

The DCT-Series offers three primary model sizes: DCT-12M, DCT-16M, and DCT-20M. These variants differ in overall dimensions, cylinder bore diameter, grip force, weight, and loading capacities.

  • Model Sizes: DCT-12M (Cylinder Bore Ø 12 mm), DCT-16M (Cylinder Bore Ø 16 mm), and DCT-20M (Cylinder Bore Ø 20 mm).
  • Jaw Opening: Ranges from 18 mm (0.71") on the DCT-12M to 22 mm (0.87") on the DCT-20M.
  • Grip Force @ 7 bar (100 psi): Varies by model and jaw length; for L = 25 mm (1") at 0°, forces are 32 N (7.2 lb) for DCT-12M, 70 N (16 lb) for DCT-16M, and 112 N (25 lb) for DCT-20M.
  • Materials: Housing is aluminum alloy anodized with PTFE impregnation; main components are made of heat-treated steel.

The series supports various accessory configurations to extend functionality. Available options include Adjustable Stop Kits (BR-CT-12, BR-CT-16, BR-CT-20) and Inductive Sensor Mounting Kits (SD-CT-16, SD-CT-20). Note that inductive sensors are not available for the DCT-12M model.

Sensor options include:

  • Inductive Sensors: OISP-014 and OISN-014 (PNP/NPN, 4 mm).
  • Magneto Resistive Sensors: OHSP-017/OHSN-017 (long barrel) and OHSP-011/OHSN-011 (short 90° barrel), available in PNP or NPN configurations.

Quick Disconnect Cables are offered in lengths of 2 m (6') [CABL-010] and 5 m (16') [CABL-013]. Flow controls are recommended to reduce rotation speed, though they must be sourced separately as required accessory equipment.

Key Product Differences

The DCT-Series is differentiated by model size, which dictates physical dimensions and mechanical capacity. The DCT-12M measures 64 mm (2.52") in height and weighs 0.09 Kg (0.20 lb). The DCT-16M increases to 72 mm (2.83") height with a weight of 0.16 Kg (0.35 lb). The largest variant, the DCT-20M, stands 89 mm (3.50") tall and weighs 0.28 Kg (0.62 lb).

Loading capacities scale with model size. For static loading on the DCT-12M, maximum tensile/compressive force is 47 N (11 lb) and moment capacity is 1.1 Nm (10 in-lb). The DCT-16M supports up to 90 N (20 lb) for tension/compression and 2.9 Nm (26 in-lb) moments. The DCT-20M handles maximum static loads of 150 N (34 lb) and 6 Nm (53 in-lb). Dynamic loading capacities are lower across all models.

Accuracy specifications differ slightly between the smaller and largest units: ±0.07 mm (±0.0028") applies to DCT-12M and DCT-16M, while DCT-20M is specified at ±0.08 mm (±0.003"). Actuation time increases with size from 0.06 sec for the DCT-12M to 0.16 sec for the DCT-20M.
