Supported Applications
The Omega Multipair Thermocouple Extension Cable series provides color-coded polyvinyl-insulated extension wire configured in twisted, marked pairs for thermocouple signal transmission. Standard cables are designed to extend signals from Chromega/Alomega (Type KX), Iron/Constantan (Type JX), and Copper/Constantan (Type TX) sensors.
Each standard cable includes an extra orange polyvinyl-clad stranded-copper wire intended for use as a ground connection or to complete a communication or signal circuit. The series supports custom configurations, including FEP insulated multipair cables, overbraided designs, and 2-pair cable designs available upon consultation with the Sales Department.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The standard polyvinyl insulation withstands temperatures up to 105 °C (221 °F). The construction features a stranded tinned-copper drain wire laid over the bundle of twisted pairs, covered with aluminum-backed polyester film/plastic sheet tape to serve as an electro-static shield. This drain wire provides a simple mechanical termination for the cable.
Individual conductors are covered with a polyvinyl jacket approximately 0.38 mm (0.015 ") thick. The pairs are individually twisted and wrapped in clear polyester film/plastic sheet tape before being encased in an outer polyvinyl jacket approximately 1.1 mm (0.045 ") thick.
Configuration Options
The series is available with varying numbers of twisted pairs, conductor gauges, and thermocouple types. Standard configurations include ANSI color codes; IEC color code options are available via the manufacturer's website.
- Pair Counts: 2, 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, and 24 twisted pairs.
- Conductor Gauges: 20 AWG (PP series) and 24 AWG (SPP series).
- Thermocouple Types: Type KX (Chromega/Alomega), Type JX (Iron/Constantan), and Type TX (Copper/Constantan).
- Nominal Overall Sizes: Ranges from 7.3 mm (0.29") for the 2-pair, 24 AWG KX model to 20 mm (0.77") for the 24-pair, 20 AWG models.
- Shielding: Standard electro-static shield with a tinned-copper drain wire and aluminum-backed polyester film wrap.
Special orders are available to suit specific installation requirements. Overbraiding options include tinned copper, stainless steel, or Inconel upon request. Custom designs for FEP insulation and individually shielded pairs are offered for higher temperature and more severe environments.
Key Product Differences
Variants differ primarily by the number of twisted pairs, wire gauge (AWG), thermocouple type, and color code standard. Model numbers follow a structured format indicating pair count, AWG size, type, and color code designation.
- PP Series: Denotes 20 AWG conductors with ANSI color coding (e.g., 4KX20PP).
- SPP Series: Denotes 24 AWG conductors, typically available in configurations starting at 2 pairs for Type KX and 4 pairs for Types JX and TX.
Nominal overall size increases with the number of pairs. For example, a 4-pair cable measures approximately 10 mm (0.39") for 20 AWG conductors across all types, while increasing to 17 mm (0.68") or larger as pair counts rise to 20 and 24.

Do you have a flammability rating for the multi-pair ANSI TX thermocouple cable, example 8TX24SPP?
Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, this product is not rated.

Is the temperature max range, the maximum temperature it could handle or is this just for the insulation?
Hi Richie, that would be correct the temperature ranges would be safe for the insulation. The maximum temperature range under the "Edit Options" box is solely for the temperature ranges that omega tests at. Although the wire would be able to read accord to its thermocouple type.

How many foots does the real contain? if i ordered complete reel of thermocouple cable (24KX20PP).
Thank you for your inquiry. This wire is not sold by a specific length. It's sold by the foot: QTY of 1 equals 1 foot of wire

Is this cable Cable Tray Rated?
Thank you for your inquiry. This wire is not cable tray rated.

The temperature range is listed at 0-105°C. Do you have a Multipair Thermocouple Extension Cable for T Type thermocouples that is good to -40°C? I need a temperature range between -40°C and +65°C.
Thank you for your inquiry. The 0-105°C temperature rating applies only to the insulation and not the signal that it can transmit.

Sold by QUANTITY default 1, sold by the FOOT, lower down says "...purchased in any quantity [minimum length 7.5 m (25')]". Select value under 25 (only need 15 feet) to cart and seems to have no issues with this. So is there a minimum? Why is default 1?
Thank you for your inquiry Milton. The amount of feet you can get for this multipair cable depends on the quantity you order for the wire. For example, For example if you want 5 feet of the 4KX24SPP, you need to order the 4KX24SPP for a quantity of 5. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact us directly at 1-800-622-2378, ask for Temperature Engineering or temp@omega.com.

What is the dielectric rating for the insulation, how high of a voltage is it safe to handle the cable
Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, the Insulation is not “Tray-Rated” and therefore has no dielectric data.
