Supported Applications
The Rotronic HP23 is a multifunction hand-held indicator with data logging capability. The series supports spot checking HVAC installations, manufacturing processes, measuring seeds, pharmaceutical powders, and paper stacks. Additionally, the device functions as a calibrator for other ROTRONIC instruments based on AirChip 3000 technology.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The HP23 measures relative humidity, temperature, water activity (Aw), dew/frost point, barometric pressure, and air velocity. The measurement range covers 0 to 100 %RH and -100 to 200°C (-148 to 392°F). While the sensor supports this full process range, the operating temperature of the HP23 electronics is limited to -10 to 60°C. The device features two probe inputs and a real-time clock.
Configuration Options
The series offers configurable power options and multiple input types for various sensing needs:
- Power Supply: Operates on a 9V alkaline battery (factory default) or a 9V rechargeable Ni-MH battery. The device ships with the charge function turned off; it must be enabled in the Function Menu – Settings to use a rechargeable battery.
- Probe Inputs: Supports HygroClip 2 digital probe signals and 1-channel analog probe signals (0 to max. 3.3 VDC).
- Data & Connectivity: Includes data logging, configuration via HW4 software, and a service connector (mini USB type) for charging and PC connection.
Available options and accessories include HygroClip 2 humidity-temperature probes, HygroClip 2 analog probes, analog pressure probes, the AC1212 battery charger, and the AC2001 service cable. Users should note that trying to charge a regular battery may cause it to burst and damage the instrument.
Key Product Differences
The series includes two primary configurations: Standard Mode for general-purpose indication, data logging, and calibration; and Aw Mode specifically for water activity measurement. The HP23-AW model is equipped with Aw Mode capabilities, whereas standard models operate in the general purpose configuration.
