Supported Applications

The Monnit Alta Wireless Single Input Pulse Count Sensors are enterprise Internet of Things (IoT) solutions designed to count pulses from systems such as water meters, power meters, or door access switches. The series supports single-input pulse counting for passive inputs like Open Collector NPN Switches and Mechanical Switches, as well as active 0-15V Driven Sources.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Alta Pulse Count sensors operate wirelessly with a range of over 1,000 feet non-line-of-sight through 12–14 walls using Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS). The device features Encrypt-RF™ security utilizing Diffie-Hellman + AES-128 CBC and includes onboard memory for up to 512 sensor messages. Input voltage is specified as 0 to 15 Volts DC with a maximum count of 4,294,967,296 (32 bit number). Counter operation detects Positive and/or Negative Edge Pulses.

Operating temperature ranges vary by model configuration:

• Commercial Coin Cell: -7°C to +60°C (20°F to +140°F)
• Commercial AA: -18°C to +55°C (0°F to 130°F) using alkaline; -40°C to +85°C (-40°F to 185°F) using lithium
• Industrial Wireless: -40°C to +85°C (-40°F to +185°F)

The series supports configurable filters including No filter, 4 Hz, and 40 Hz. For passive inputs with no filter, the maximum pulse rate is approximately 2 KHz with a minimum pulse width of ~0.5 ms.

Power Consumption & Supply

The series operates on 2.0 - 3.8 VDC (Coin Cell or AA batteries) and supports 3.0 - 3.8 VDC using power supply for AA and Industrial models. Current consumption varies by mode:

• 0.2 µA (Sleep Mode)
• 570 µA (MCU Idle)
• 2.5 mA (MCU Active)
• 5.5 mA (Radio RX Mode)
• 22.6 mA (Radio TX Mode)

Certifications & Approvals

The series holds FCC, CE, and Industry Canada approvals. Specific certifications include EN 300 220-2 V3.1.1 (2017-02) and EN 60950 for 868 and 433 MHz products. The Industrial model is UL Listed to UL508-4x specifications (File E194432).

The Alta Pulse Count series is available in three distinct variants: Commercial Coin Cell, Commercial AA, and Industrial Wireless. Each variant offers different power options, temperature ranges, and enclosure ratings.

The Industrial model features a sealed and weatherproof enclosure rated NEMA 1, 2, 4, 4X, 12, and 13. It is designed for indoor or outdoor use protecting against dust, rain, sleet, snow, splashing water, and hose-directed water.

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes between Commercial and Industrial grades based on environmental protection and power flexibility. The Commercial Coin Cell model is the smallest variant at 0.7 Ounces weight, while the Industrial Wireless model weighs 4.7 Ounces.

Commercial Grade Sensors are noted with a warning: Do not use in corrosive, flammable, dusty, high-pressure, or excessively humid environments. The Industrial Wireless Sensor is explicitly designed for harsher conditions including rain and hose-directed water.

The AA model supports both alkaline (-18°C to +55°C) and lithium batteries (-40°C to +85°C), whereas the Coin Cell variant operates within -7°C to +60°C. The Industrial model includes an optional solar feature with a charging temperature range of 0°C to 45°C (32°F to 113°F).
