Supported Applications

The Rotronic HygroMet MP102H/402H series consists of meteorological probes designed for the measurement of relative humidity and temperature. These transmitters are engineered for demanding applications including weather stations, snow making operations, road condition monitoring, airport runway condition monitoring, and HVAC systems.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series operates within a process and ambient temperature range of -40...+80 °C. Relative humidity is measured from 0...100 %rh (non-condensing). The device achieves an accuracy of ±0.8 %rh for humidity and ±0.1 °C for temperature when using the standard HygroClip HC2-S3 sensor module with AirChip3000 digital technology.

Key performance characteristics include:

  • Housing Protection Grade: IP 65
  • Maximum Air Velocity at Probe: 20 m/s (3,935 ft/min)
  • Start-up Time: 3 s (typical)
  • Data Refresh Rate: 1 s (typical)

The probe is resistant to air pollution and moisture condensation. For critical chemical environments, compatibility follows the guidelines specified in DV04-14.0803.02.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable output signals depending on the model selection: MP102H provides voltage outputs (0...1 VDC, 0...5 VDC, or 0...10 VDC), while MP402H provides current outputs (0...20 mA or 4...20 mA). All devices feature an RS-485 digital interface. The electronics support psychrometric calculations and allow Output 1 and Output 2 to be configured for any parameter, with user-configurable scaling limits from -999 to +9999 engineering units.

Power supply requirements vary by output type:

  • Standard Supply Voltage: 15...24 VDC
  • Voltage Output Minimums: 0...1 VDC requires 5 VDC min; 0...5 VDC requires 10 VDC min; 0...10 VDC requires 20 VDC min.

The device is supplied with a 3 m cable featuring tinned ends and utilizes a Tuchel 7-pin connector plug. Optional configurations include:

  • Additional Sensors: Directly connected Pt100 RTD probes (PT S, PT AS, PT R, PT AR) for temperature measurement.
  • Radiation Shields: Actively ventilated shields with built-in fans (order codes RS12T for 12 VDC or RS24T for 24 VDC).
  • Natural Ventilation Shields: Protection against rainfall and sunshine suitable for horizontally incident rain up to 68 km/h (order codes AC1002/1012, AC1004, AC1015).

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction between the two series models lies in their analog output signal types. The MP102H is configured for voltage outputs (0...1 VDC, 0...5 VDC, or 0...10 VDC), whereas the MP402H is configured for current loop outputs (0...20 mA or 4...20 mA). Both models share identical measurement ranges, accuracy specifications, and RS-485 interface capabilities.

Physical construction includes a POM housing with an overall length of approximately 216 mm and a diameter of ca. 58 mm (excluding the probe stem which is ø25 mm in some configurations). The HC2-S3 probe material is polycarbonate, featuring a polyethylene dust filter. The device corresponds to UL94-HB fire protection class and complies with EMC Directive 2004/108/EG standards including EN 61000-6-1: 2001, EN 61000-6-2: 2005, EN 61000-6-3: 2005, and EN 61000-6-4: 2001+A11. It is also compatible with FDA/GAMP directives and utilizes lead-free solder (RoHS directive).
