Supported Applications
The Omega FMA-1600 Series consists of Mass and Volumetric Flow Meters designed for clean gases. These instruments measure mass flow rate, volumetric flow rate, gas absolute pressure, and gas temperature using a laminar flow element (LFE) to force gas into laminar flow. The series supports applications requiring simultaneous display of multiple parameters without straight pipe runs or warm-up time.
Documented media compatibility includes clean gases with over 130 standard gas calibrations available, including custom live gas blend programming and storage for up to 20 user-defined gas blends.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series offers measurement ranges from 0.5 SCCM to 3000 SLM (0 to 1000 SLPM through 0 to 100,000 SLPM in specific configurations). Accuracy is specified as ±(0.8% of rdg + 0.2% FS) per the data sheet specifications table, with a repeatability of ±0.2%. The typical default response time is <10 ms for 63.2% of a step change and is field adjustable via RS232.
Operating conditions include an ambient temperature range of -10 to 50°C (14 to 122°F). Maximum pressure rating is listed as 145 psig, with standard output scaled in SCFM or SLPM. The meters provide a turndown ratio of 200:1 and feature NIST Standard certification.

Accessories and Cables
- Cables: Replacement or extension cables with 8-pin male mini DIN connectors in single-ended, double-ended, right-angle, or DB9 female adaptor configurations (1.8 m / 6' or 7.6 m / 25')
- Multi-Drop Box: FMA1600-MDB accessory
Key Product Differences
The series includes distinct model families based on flow range and connection size. Models are designated by a base number (e.g., FMA-1601A through FMA-1623A) corresponding to specific maximum flows from 0.5 SCCM up to 3000 SLM.
Physical dimensions vary with flow range: smaller units (0.5 to 50 SCCM) measure approximately 98.98 mm x 60.33 mm x 26.67 mm, while larger models (up to 1500 SLM) reach heights of 126.16 mm and lengths of 101.60 mm with depths up to 40.64 mm.
Specialized variants include the FMA-LP1600A for low pressure drop applications, the FMA-1600A-LSS for aggressive gases (referenced in manual documentation), and portable versions denoted by the -B suffix which integrate battery power. The standard output is 0 to 5 Vdc; models requiring current loop or dual outputs utilize specific suffixes (-I, -V2) as defined in the ordering guide.

Good Mass Flowmeter
Easy to setup and reliable. Easy to use. Remote operation needs expert installation but is easy to use after setup. Price could be lower to have a broader application.

Accurate and reliable
Bought this flow meter to measure and calibrate the flow rate of Helium and Argon for a protein analyzer instrument. Without the meter, it's virtually impossible to know the exactly flow rate to calibrate it since the instrument doesn't response to change in flow rate. We waste a lot of precious Helium gas due to that. Now that it's calibrated, we can save money in the long run. Awesome!

Need better software
IT works well, but would love to see a better user interface to connect it to PC. Using PuTTY kind of sucks.

hi how i can connect it to o2 generator @65 psi thank you
Good Afternoon,
Intended to read Air flow, does the display can be selected to show the flow in PPH?

If the meter recorded a flow when set to the incorrect media, is there a trusted conversion to post-process data?
Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, no.

What are the voltage levels of the RS232 signals? -12V to +12V?
Thank you for your inquiry. The mass flow meters have by factory default a 0 to 5V signal output or as an option a 4 to 20 mA and the RS232 is available as serial communication.

Hi, is FMA-1601A usable for LPG with H2S and RSH mixture?
Thank you for your inquiry about the mass flow meter. There is an option listed in themanual for the '-LSS' version that handles corrosive gases such as the H2S listed. You may submit a request for a quote to flow@omega.com with the estmated flow range to prepare the part number required.

What is the minimum inlet pressure of the 0-5 SLPM model?
Thank you for your inquiry. The minimum pressure required is 1 PSI

Can this sensor measure the flow rate of a duct with a mixture of air, dust, and particles? Is this sensor compatible with the program NodeRED?
Thank you for your inquiry. It is not recommended to have suspended particles in the air stream and will result in clogging the internal flow path and cause damage. This flow meter requires that the air flow be clean and dry and if the NodeRED can accept an analog input from the flow meter's output, yes.

I am interested in using Modbus protocol via RS232/RS485 to poll data from this instrument. Is this possible? And if so, what register address corresponds to what type of data (ie Mass flow, Volumetric flow, Pressure and Temperature)?
Thank you for your inquiry. The manual for the MODBUS communication protocol is found in the Downloads & Software Manuals Tab.

Hi, does this flow meter work for steam at low vapor pressure (< 1 psia)?
Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, the mass flow meter is best for only clean, dry gases, not for steam applications.
