Supported Applications

The FMG490 Series is a spool-type electromagnetic flowmeter for irrigation service in 3" to 12" pipe, distinguished by its remote display for installations where the meter body sits in an awkward or submerged location. With no moving parts, it offers an unobstructed bore and shrugs off the debris found in ground or surface water, and with no bearings or propellers it needs little maintenance.

The meter suits any electrically conductive water with a conductivity greater than 20 microSiemens/cm, and its minimal straight-pipe requirement eases retrofit into existing distribution and agricultural water lines. Pulse output is standard, with an optional 4-20mA current loop for analog integration.

Operating Conditions & Performance

Flow is measured from a low-flow cutoff of 0.5% of maximum flow rate up to 10 m/sec. Accuracy is ±0.75% of reading plus ±0.025% of full-scale flow from the low-flow cutoff to the 10 m/sec maximum.

Operating temperature is -12° to 60°C and storage temperature is -40° to 70°C. Line pressure is rated to 10.3 bar. The powder-coated diecast aluminum housing carries a NEMA 6P, IP68 rating, submersible to 3 m depth continuously, and the meter is CE certified to EN 61326.

Electrodes are 316 stainless steel. DC units run on 9-36 Vdc at 250 mA maximum (30 mA average); AC units on 85-264Vac, 50/60Hz at 0.12A. The current loop supports up to 650 Ω. Both the power/output cable and the remote display cable are supplied as 6 m polyurethane-jacketed leads, with lengths available on request.

Configuration Options

Across the 48 catalogue variants the measuring principle is constant, but wetted construction, power and output differ. The 3" body is ductile cast iron with a Noryl® liner and EPDM O-ring, while the 4"-12" bodies are welded steel with an epoxy coating and a Santoprene flange/Polypropylene liner. Adding the remote display adds 3.5 kg on the 3" meter.

Physical size scales with pipe size: length runs from 311 mm on the 3" up to 500 mm on the 12", and shipping weight rises from 18 kg to 79 kg. Power configurations cover AC and DC, and each unit provides scaled pulse output with an optional 4-20mA current loop.
