Supported Applications

The Omega LV Series comprises low-cost, single-station liquid level switches designed for vertical mounting in tanks and vessels. These devices feature a small float displacement suitable for narrow or restricted areas and are engineered to minimize the effects of shock, vacuum, or vibration. The series supports general-purpose monitoring of clean liquids as well as dirty or viscous fluids.

Documented applications include:

  • Clean liquid level detection
  • Dirty or viscous liquid monitoring (specifically LV-30 Series)
  • Pump-up/pump-down control when paired with the SSRL series pump-down module
  • Switching low-level loads such as small light bulbs, logic signals to a computer, or PLC inputs via reed relays

Operating Conditions & Performance

The LV Series operates within specific temperature envelopes depending on the media. For water applications, the operating range is -40 to 82°C (-40 to 180°F). When used with oil, the series supports temperatures from -40 to 149°C (-40 to 300°F).

Pressure ratings vary by model family. The LV-10 and LV-11 models are rated for 300 PSI, while the LV-20/LV-21/LV-22/LV-23 and LV-30/LV-31/LV-32/LV-33 families are rated for 150 PSI. Switch actuation points have a tolerance of ±⅛".

Electrical switching capabilities depend on the specific switch rating selected (VA). The series offers reed relays intended to switch low-level loads; for inductive loads or higher current/voltage ratings, external solid-state relays are recommended. Units will operate normally when inclined up to 30°.

Configuration Options

The LV Series is configurable across three primary model families (LV-10, LV-20, and LV-30) with varying float displacements, stem materials, switch ratings, and pressure limits. The series supports the following selection parameters:

Model Families & Float Displacement

  • Lv-10 Series: Small float displacement; 1" diameter.
  • Lv-20 Series: Intermediate float displacement for greater stability; 1¼" diameter.
  • Lv-30 Series: Larger float displacement intended for high-viscosity liquids and harsh environments; 1⅞" diameter.

Materials & Construction

  • Stem Material: Brass or 316 SS (stainless steel).
  • Float Material: Buna N.
  • Other Wetted Materials: 316 SS and Hysol epoxy.

Switch Ratings & Electrical Connections

  • Switch Type: Sealed SPST, user-selectable as normally open (N.O.) or normally closed (N.C.).
  • Ratings Available: 20 VA and 100 VA options.
  • Lead Wires: 24" polymeric; 22 AWG for LV-10, 18 AWG for LV-20 and LV-30 Series.

Process Connections & Mounting

  • Lv-10/LV-20: ⅛ NPT male fitting (standard).
  • Lv-30: ¼ NPT male fitting.
  • Mounting Orientation: Top or bottom of tank/vessel; vertical mounting required for standard operation, with allowance up to 30° inclination.

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes models by stem material and switch rating within each size family. The LV-10/LV-11 pair offers a higher pressure rating (300 PSI) compared to the 150 PSI limit of the LV-2x and LV-3x families.

  • Lv-10 vs. Lv-11: Identical dimensions; differs by stem material (Brass for -10, 316 SS for -11).
  • Lv-20/LV-21 vs. LV-22/LV-23: The first pair uses Brass stems with 20 VA and 100 VA ratings respectively; the second pair utilizes 316 SS stems for corrosive service.
  • Lv-30/LV-31 vs. LV-32/LV-33: Similar to the -2x series, these offer Brass or 316 SS stem options with corresponding switch ratings of 20 VA and 100 VA.

To determine minimum fluid specific gravity requirements, add 0.1 to the float specific gravity for clean liquids (LV-10: 0.50; LV-20: 0.58; LV-30: 0.43) and add 0.3 for dirty water or viscous liquids.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good and affordable switch This switch works as described and takes a very small space. Although I paid for the overnight shipping and it took a week.
