Supported Applications

The Omega LVC500 Series comprises low-cost conductivity level switch systems designed for liquids only. These electronic level controls operate on a simple conductance principle to maintain liquid levels in industrial sumps or indicate high-level alarms in holding tanks. The series is suitable for conductive media including potable water, condensate, acids, and water-based chemicals (inorganic chemicals). It is not intended for non-aqueous liquids such as oils or hydrocarbons.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The LVC500 Series operates within an ambient temperature range of -40 to 65°C (-40 to 150°F). The system features a response time with a ½ second delay on rising level and hysteresis of 1.6 mm (±1/16"). Performance varies by electronics module regarding maximum media resistance: standard relay modules LVC511, LVC521 support up to 50,000 Ω; the field-adjustable LVC512 supports 4700 to 1 million Ω. Intrinsically safe modules offer different ranges: LVC551 is field adjustable from 0 to 470,000 Ω, while LVC552 supports up to 100,000 Ω.

Pressure ratings depend on the assembly type and material. The LVC-S3 threaded single electrode holder (¾ MNPT) is rated for 400 psig at 231°C (448°F). Threaded assemblies are generally rated to 250 psig at 208°C (406°F), while 125# cast iron flanges support 125 psig at 178°C (353°F) and 150# 316 SS flanges support 225 psig.

Configuration Options

The system consists of three configurable components: cut-to-length threaded electrode rods, single or multi-electrode holders (threaded or flanged), and remote electronic modules. The series supports a broad envelope of configurations:

  • Electrodes: Available in 303 SS (LVC-E1x) and 316 SS (LVC-E5x). Standard lengths include 305 mm (12"), 610 mm (24"), 915 mm (36"), 1220 mm (48"), 1525 mm (60"), and up to 1830 mm (72"). Beyond 1.8 m (72"), probes require PTFE sleeving at the tip.
  • Holders & Assemblies: Threaded multi-electrode assemblies are available in Stainless Steel, Brass, or Cast Iron for 1 to 7 electrodes with junction boxes included. Flanged multi-electrode assemblies (Stainless Steel or Cast Iron) support nominal pipe sizes from 1" to 3".
  • Electronics Modules: Options include standard relay electronics (LVC511, LVC512, LVC521) and intrinsically safe modules. The LVC551 is FM approved for Class I and II, Division 1, Groups A through G; the LVC552 is UL approved.
  • Outputs & Logic: Modules provide SPDT relay outputs with field-selectable latching/non-latching operation and high/low alarm or pump-up/pump-down logic. Power supply options include standard 102 to 132 Vac (or 110 to 132 Vac for LVC552), 50/60 Hz, with optional 240 Vac and 24 Vac models.
  • Materials: Wetted materials include 303 SS, 316 SS, PTFE, Brass, and Cast Iron. Housing options feature Clear Lexan® (see-through), die-cast aluminum, or epoxy-coated finishes.

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes between standard relay electronics and intrinsically safe variants based on the application environment. Standard modules LVC511 and LVC521 utilize 8-pin and open circuit board connections respectively, while the LVC512 uses an 11-pin socket to support field-adjustable sensitivity from 4700 Ω up to 1 million Ω.

Intrinsically safe modules (LVC551, LVC552) are required when electrodes or float switches are located in hazardous areas. These controls must be mounted in a non-hazardous location with wiring separated from non-intrinsically safe circuits per the National Electrical Code (NEC). The LVC-S3 holder is specifically noted for its higher pressure rating of 400 psig at maximum temperature compared to standard threaded assemblies.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from It's not a sensor! It just probe. I boughti this couple weeks ago, thought this is a whole sensor, but It's only a probe. But I managed to use this with old sensor.

Are there any specific recommendations for cleaning level sensor electrodes? Specifically called for products or cleaning products to stay away from?

Asked by: Meowza
We recommend using regular dish detergent that works well and not too abrasive cleaning pad to remove any accumulation of dirt or gunk on the electrode.

Will this level Switch work with Oil or diesel fluid?

Asked by: Richard123
Thank you for your inquiry! Unfortunately, this style of switch is intended for use with conductive liquids and will not be well suited for use with oil or diesel.
