Light Weight Oil Circulation Heater

  • Standard Element Sheath Materials
  • Incoloy® 800 — A Nickel (30 to 35%), Chromium (19 to 23%), Iron alloy. The high nickel content of this alloy contributes to its resistance to scaling and corrosion. Used in air heating (also see Incoloy® 840) and immersion heating of potable water and other liquids that are not corrosive to an Incoloy® 800 sheath.
  • Low Carbon Steel — Applications include fluid heat transfer media, tar, high to low viscosity petroleum oils, asphalt, wax, molten salt, and other solutions not corrosive to a steel sheath.
  • 316 Stainless Steel — A Chromium (16 to 18%), Nickel (11 to 14%), Iron Alloy with Molybdenum (2 to 3%) added to improve corrosion resistance in certain environments, especially those that would tend to cause pitting due to the presence of chlorides. Applications include deionized water.

Supported Applications

The Omega CHF Series consists of self-contained circulation heaters designed to transfer heat generated by elements directly to the medium being processed. These units are engineered for optimum operating efficiency and performance in applications involving specific media, including Fuel Oils (Bunker C and Number 6), Lightweight Oils, Degreasing Solutions, Heat Transfer Oils, Potable water, Deionized water, Clean water, Air, Sterilizing solutions, and Organic and inorganic chemicals.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The CHF Series operates with a process temperature up to 399°C (750°F) for SA53B/SA106B steel vessels. The insulation is rated to 399°C (750°F). Standard configurations utilize NPT pipe threads for units ranging from 76 mm (3") to 203 mm (8"), while flanged connections are provided for 254 mm (10") and larger units. Flanges are standard at 150 lb ratings, with optional 300 lb ratings available.

Power supply options include 120V, 240V-1Ph, 240V-3Ph, 480V-1Ph, and 480V-3Ph. The series supports watt densities of 8 watts/in² (1.3 watts/cm²) for heavy oils like Bunker C and Number 6, and 23 watts/in² (3.6 watts/cm²) for lightweight oils, degreasing solutions, and heat transfer oils.

Configuration Options

The series offers a broad range of configurable dimensions across nominal pipe sizes from 1¼ NPT to larger flanged units. Approximate weights vary by model, ranging from 6 kg (14 lb) to 249 kg (550 lb). Key configuration options include:

  • Terminal Housings: Standard NEMA 1; optional Moisture-proof (NEMA 4), Explosion-resistant (NEMA 7), or combined Moisture/Explosion-resistant (NEMA 4/7) housings.
  • Vessel and Jacket Materials: Steel vessel with 25 mm (1") thick insulation standard; optional stainless steel vessels. Outer jacket is standard stainless steel sheet metal, with an optional stainless steel outer jacket featuring a weather-tight seal.
  • Sheath Materials: Available in Incoloy® 800, Low Carbon Steel, 316 Stainless Steel, Copper, 304 Stainless Steel, 321 Stainless Steel, Incoloy® 840, and Incoloy® 825.
  • Temperature Control Options: Double-pole non-indicating bulb and capillary type thermostat; solid state temperature controllers and jacket thermostats; thermocouple for over-temperature protection (attached to an element or mounted in a thermowell).
  • Special Service Features: Flow control baffles, additional insulation or high-temperature ceramic fiber insulation, passivation or electro-polishing of flanged immersion heater surfaces.

Dimensional variations are defined by specific drawing numbers corresponding to nominal sizes; for example, Drawing 2 covers 2½ NPT units with dimensions such as "A" at 42 1/16 inch (1084 mm) or 55 5/16 inch (1402 mm), while Drawing 3 applies to 3"—150 lb flanged units. The series supports both screw plug and flanged immersion heater configurations depending on the selected size.

Thank you for your inquiry. There is no general minimum flow rate. The heating elements must always be in full-contact with flowing media while in-process.
