Supported Applications
The Dwyer Iso Verter® II Model 4380 is a signal conditioner designed for converting and isolating various input signals (current, voltage, bi-polar, zero-based) to desired output signals. It protects electronic circuits by completely isolating the input and output signals from each other and from ground. The device features programmable input and output ranges via internal DIP switches and calibration adjustments for zero and span, intended for industrial process control applications.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The Model 4380 operates within an ambient temperature range of 32 to 131°F (0 to 55°C). It provides a linearity of 0.1% of full span with typical drift of ±0.02%/°C and maximum drift of ±0.05%/°C. The unit offers electrical isolation rated at 1500 VAC between input, output, and ground.
Power requirements are met by a supply of 85 to 265 VDC/VAC, 50 to 400 Hz. Input impedance is specified as 10 ohms for current inputs and 1 megohm for voltage inputs. Output load limits are defined as 600 ohms maximum for current outputs and a minimum of 500 ohms (20 mA maximum) for voltage outputs.
Configuration Options
Input Selection
The series supports field-selectable input ranges via internal switches, including:
- Current Inputs: 0-5 mA, 1-5 mA, 4-20 mA, 0-10 mA, 0-20 mA, 0-50 mA, 10-50 mA, and 0-100 mA.
- Voltage Inputs: 0-100 mV, 0-200 mV, 0-500 mV, 0-1 V, 0-5 V, 0-10 V, 1-5 V, and 2-10 V.
Input modes are configurable for Uni-Polar, Bi-Polar (e.g., -10 to ±10 VDC), Zero-Based, or Zero-Suppressed signals. The device is factory calibrated for a default condition of 4 to 20 mA Uni-Polar Direct-Acting Input and 4 to 20 mA Uni-Polar Output.
Output Selection
Field-selectable output ranges include:
- Voltage Outputs: 0-1 V, 0-5 V, 0-10 V, 1-5 V, and 2-10 V.
- Current Outputs: 0-1 mA, 0-5 mA, 1-5 mA, 4-20 mA, 0-20 mA.
Output modes are configurable for Uni-Polar, Bi-Polar, Zero-Based, or Zero-Suppressed signals. Switch configurations allow selection of Direct Acting or Reverse Acting operation (the latter requiring reverse input wiring).
Housing and Mounting
The unit plugs into an industry standard octal socket for installation. The case size including socket pins is 2-3/8" W x 3-7/16" H x 1-3/4" D (60.3 mm W x 87.3 mm H x 44.4 mm D), with a height of 2-7/8" (73 mm) above the socket. An optional Model 481-0159 DIN Rail Socket Adapter is available for new installations.
Key Product Differences
The Model 4380 series identity centers on its field-configurable nature via internal DIP switches, allowing a single unit to accommodate nearly any standard input/output range combination. The device features zero and span adjustments accessible on top of the housing.
A critical distinction in operation is that while factory calibrated for specific defaults (4-20 mA Uni-Polar Direct-Acting), changing from this default condition may require field re-calibration to ensure accuracy of zero and span adjustments. The unit carries UL and cUL US approvals.
