Supported Applications
The Omega DR-14 Series Isolated Signal Convertors are designed for industrial applications requiring signal isolation and conversion. The series encompasses four distinct models tailored to specific measurement domains: the DR-14E handles electrical signals including AC/DC voltage and current; the DR-14F processes impulses and frequency signals from sensors such as NPN, PNP, mechanical switches, reed contacts, pick-ups, Namur proximity switches, TTL, and VAC inputs. The DR-14L is configured for load cells and millivolt-level measurements, while the DR-14P addresses process signals (4/20 mA, 0/10 VDC) and temperature sensing via thermocouples, RTDs, NTC sensors, and potentiometers. All models feature 3-way isolation to prevent ground loops and transient propagation.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series operates within an ambient temperature range of 0 to +50 °C, with storage temperatures supported from -20 to +70 °C. Humidity ratings cover 0 to 95% non condensing. The enclosure is rated IP30 and constructed of Polyamide V0, offering a shock rating of IK06. Power requirements are met by a universal isolated supply accepting 18 to 265 VAC/DC (20 to 240 VAC/DC ±10 %).
Performance accuracy varies by output type and signal: outputs achieve ±0.05 % FS for 4/20 mA active/passive signals, while 0/10 VDC output adds to indicated accuracy values with a base of ±0.05% FS (VDC Output Accuracy). Thermal drift specifications are range-dependent: ±150 ppm/°C for ranges up to 5 mV; ±100 ppm/°C for ranges up to 20 mV and specifically for the DR-14P model; and ±75 ppm/°C for ranges up to 80 mV. Thermocouple cold junction thermal drift is specified at ±0.05 °C/°C.
Response times are dependent on filter settings (No Filter, 50 Hz or 60 Hz Filter, Both) and signal type:
- AC Signals: <350 mSec typ. (0 to 99%)
- DC Signals: <90 mSec typ. (No filter); <175 mSec typ. (Single frequency filter); <350 mSec typ. (Both filters)
- Process Signals (DR-14P): <60 mSec (No Filter), <250 mSec (Single Filter), <600 mSec (Both Filters)
- Pt100: <100 mSec (No Filter), <320 mSec (Single Filter), <2 Sec. (Both Filters)
- Thermocouple: <100 mSec (No Filter), <200 mSec (Single Filter), <1 Sec. (Both Filters)
Configuration Options
The DR-14 Series supports a broad envelope of input signals and configurable outputs, allowing selection based on specific sensor types and process requirements.
Input Measurement Ranges
- Voltage: AC/DC from 50 mV up to 600 VAC; DC from 0/50 mV up to 0/600 VDC.
- Current: AC/DC from 5 mA up to 5 A AC and 0/5 mA up to 0/5 A DC.
- Millivolts: Ranges include 0/5 mV to 0/80 mV, ±5 mV to ±80 mV.
- Temperature Sensors: Thermocouples (J, K, N, E, T, R, S, C, B); RTDs (Pt100, Pt500, Pt1000); NTC sensors (44004 to 44008 and 44030 to 44034).
- Resistance: From 0/1 KOhm up to 0/1 MOhm; Potentiometers from 250 Ohm to 15 KOhm.
- Frequency & Impulses: Up to 1 MHz (minimum 100 mHz); Frequency measured from existing VAC/AAC ranges up to 100 Hz. Resolution is 1 mHz.
- Load Cells: Supported with excitation options.
Output & Electrical Configuration
The series offers configurable outputs of 4/20 mA active/passive or 0/10 VDC. Load resistance limits are defined as Maximum load <400 Ohm (for 4/20 mA active), Max. 30 VDC on terminals (for 4/20 mA passive), and Minimum load > 10 KOhm (for 0/10 VDC). Electrical connections utilize a plug-in screw terminal with a pitch of 5.08 mm.
Excitation & Sensor Support
The series provides various excitation voltages depending on the sensor type: +5 VDC (for load cells and TTL), +15 VDC @50 mA, 8.2 VDC @50 mA (+8.2 V for Namur), or Off (for VAC). The DR-14F model supports predefined sensors including NPN/PNP with pull-up/down resistors, mechanical switches, reed contacts, pick-ups, and TTL/Namur inputs with specific trigger levels and anti-rebound settings.
Key Product Differences
The series is differentiated by four primary model variants, each optimized for a distinct signal domain:
- DR-14E: Signal converter for electrical signals (AC/DC voltage and current).
- DR-14F: Signal converter for impulses and frequency signals.
- DR-14L: Signal converter for load cells and millivolts.
- DR-14P: Signal converter for process signals (4/20 mA, 0/10 VDC) and temperature inputs (Thermocouples, RTDs, NTC).
All models share the same physical dimensions of 106 x 108 x 22.5 mm, a weight under 150 grams, and identical housing materials (Polyamide V0) with IP30 protection.
