Supported Applications

The Omega TX1500 Series consists of isolated 4 to 20 mA transmitters designed for demanding applications involving thermocouples (Types J, K, T, E), RTD Pt100 sensors, Ohms, millivolts, milliamps, and low or high volts. These units provide galvanic isolation up to 1500 Vrms (2100 Vp) in a NEMA 4X (IP66) metal case suitable for harsh environments.

Key application capabilities include:

  • Closed-loop control at high gain: The 10:1 turndown ratio supports wide zero offset combined with narrow signal span.
  • Batch operations control: Wide signal spans are available for process monitoring and regulation.
  • Current loop isolation: Models such as the TX1505 function as 4 to 20 mA current loop isolators.
  • Hazardous locations: Units carry FM, cUL Certification (Class I, Groups B, C, D; Class II, Groups E, F, G; and Class III) and Demyk/ATEX Certification (EX II 2 G D EEx d IIC).
  • Field scalability: Custom scaling is available by specifying input signals corresponding to 4 mA and 20 mA outputs.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The TX1500 Series operates within an ambient temperature range of -40 to 85°C (-40 to 185°F) with storage capability from -55 to 125°C (-67 to 257°F). The transmitters maintain performance in environments with relative humidity up to 100% (sealed case) and withstand shock ratings of 55 g, half sine, 9 to 13 ms duration. Vibration resistance is rated at 1.52 mm (0.06") double amplitude, cycled from 10 to 80 Hz.

Performance specifications include:

  • Accuracy: ±0.1% of span; hysteresis and repeatability are also ±0.1% of span.
  • Temperature drift error: ±0.2% of zero suppression or ±0.2% of span due to a 50°C change in transmitter temperature.
  • Stability: 6-month stability error is ±0.2% of zero suppression.
  • Response time: 400 ms (Step Response, Type).
  • Electrical protection: Normal Mode Voltage (NMV) protection to 120 Vac across output leads; Common Mode Rejection (CMR) of 120 dB from DC to 60 Hz.

The series supports a watertight proof pressure rating of 35 kPa (5 psi). Power supply requirements are 9 to 50 Vdc for loop-powered operation, with voltage compliance matching this range. Load resistance is specified as 750 Ω with a 24 Vdc source or 150 Ω with a 12 Vdc source.

Measurement Ranges by Input Type

The series supports the following measurement ranges based on input type:

  • TX1501 (RTD Pt100): -200 to 750°C (-328 to 1382°F) or 0 to 365 Ω.
  • Type J T/C: -50 to 660°C (-58 to 1220°F).
  • Type K T/C: -50 to 1272°C (-58 to 2322°F).
  • Type T T/C: -50 to 350°C (-58 to 662°F).
  • Type E T/C: -50 to 900°C (-58 to 1652°F).
  • Millivolts (TX1504): -30 to 60 mV.
  • Milliamps (TX1505): -30 to 60 mA.
  • Low Volts (TX1506-1): -3.5 to 6.0 V.
  • High Volts (TX1506-2): -35 to 60 V.

Configuration Options

The TX1500 Series is configurable across multiple input types and mounting options. The standard housing material is Zamak zinc alloy with a fluorosilicone gasket, providing dimensions of 74 mm (2.9") diameter and 63.5 mm (2.50") height including barriers.

Available configuration options include:

  • Housing Options: Option EPH1-ATEX provides a single-height, all-metal housing for a single transmitter; Option EPW2-ATEX offers a double-height metal enclosure with glass window for the TX1500 Series and TX83A loop-powered indicator; Option EPW3-ATEX is a single-height enclosure for one TX83A.
  • Mounting Accessories: Option MDT1 rail clamp for DIN relay track mounting; Option MAT1 adaptor plate for snap mounting into 69.9 mm (2.75") or 76.2 mm (3.00") relay tracks; Option MXS1 spring retainers for push mounting.
  • Terminal Protection: Standard screw terminal barriers plus barrier strip cover, with optional CPB1 plastic cover to protect T/C screw terminals from air currents.
  • Output Calibration: A 10 mV/mA output (200 mV full scale) is available for calibration purposes.

The TX1501 model supports both 3-wire RTD operation with internal lead resistance compensation and 2-wire operation by shorting the -S and -EXC terminals. The TX1502A models utilize power-supply leads as signal leads to simplify field wiring.

Key Product Differences

The series is distinguished primarily by input type, which dictates model numbering (e.g., TX1501 for RTD Pt100; TX1502A-J/K/T/E for thermocouples; TX1504/5/6-1/6-2 for electrical signals). Input impedance varies significantly across models: 5 MΩ for Type J, K, T, and E thermocouples; 100 MΩ for millivolts (TX1504); 1 Ω for milliamps (TX1505); and 1 MΩ for low/high volts (TX1506).

Model-specific signal spans differ by input type. For example, the TX1502A-K supports a span of 100 to 1422°C (180 to 2560°F), while the TX1504 millivolt model covers 5 to 100 mV. The maximum signal for 20 mA output also varies, such as 760°C (1400°F) for Type J and 1372°C (2502°F) for Type K.

Physical dimensions remain consistent across the series at a diameter of 74 mm (2.9") and weight of 380 g (13 oz), though height including barriers is noted as 53 mm (2.1"). Electrical connections utilize #6 screws with wire clamps.
