Supported Applications

The Omega HBA and HBT series comprises long-life band and nozzle heaters designed for surface heating applications. The product line includes the HBA Series, featuring one-piece nozzle heaters with widths from 1 to 6 inches (3 to 15 cm), and the HBT Series, consisting of two-piece band heaters that are 2 inches (5 cm) wide.

These heaters utilize an Incoloy sheath construction intended for environments requiring durability against fouling. The design provides uniform heat distribution and faster heating compared to mica nozzle heaters while offering a lower cost of operation.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series supports distinct temperature limits based on the heater type: Nozzle temperatures up to 1000°F for the HBA series, and barrel temperatures up to 900°F for the HBT series. The Incoloy sheath has a maximum rated temperature of 1500°F.

Power supply options include 120V or 240V configurations. Electrical connections are made via terminal posts, with optional availability of a terminal box, hermetic seals, and flexible leadwire featuring stainless steel overbraiding.

HBA Series Performance Envelope

The HBA series covers barrel diameters from 1 inch (3 cm) to 4 inches (10 cm). Available wattage ratings in the documented range include values such as 275 Watts, 350 Watts, and up to 800 Watts. Power density varies by model, with examples including 29 W/In² for a 1-inch barrel diameter unit and 53 W/In² for specific configurations.

HBT Series Performance Envelope

The HBT series accommodates barrel diameters from 3 inches (8 cm) to 12 inches (30 cm). Wattage ratings range from 675 Watts up to 2000 Watts. Specific models include the HBT-30 at 675 Watts for a 3-inch diameter and the HBT-120 at 2000 Watts for a 12-inch diameter.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable dimensions across barrel diameters, widths, wattage, and voltage. Construction features include an Incoloy sheath, magnesium oxide insulated strip heater elements, brazed lead wires, and stainless steel braiding for mechanical protection.

Mounting and Connections

• HBA Series: Includes a stainless steel clamp. The design separates the clamp from the heater to facilitate easier installation.
• HBT Series: Requires a matching clamping band for two-piece assembly.
• Electrical Options: Terminal posts are standard; terminal boxes, hermetic seals, and flexible leadwire with stainless steel overbraiding are available as options.

Sizing and Weight

HBA series units typically weigh 0.5 lb (0.2 kg). HBT series weights vary by size, ranging from 1 lb (0.5 kg) for smaller diameters to 3 lb (1.4 kg) for the largest models.

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction between product families lies in their physical configuration and application geometry:

• HBA Series: One-piece nozzle heaters available in widths from 1 to 6 inches (3 to 15 cm). Model numbers follow the format <Watts>-<Volts>-<W/In²>-<Barrel Dia. in (cm)>-<Width> (e.g., HBA-103027).
• HBT Series: Two-piece band heaters with a fixed width of 2 inches (5 cm). Model numbers follow the format <Watts>/<Volts> or specific model codes like HBT-120. For models marked with an asterisk, voltage must be specified by inserting "120" for 120V or "240" for 240V (e.g., HBT-55/120).

Specific wiring requirements apply to certain two-element configurations: models marked with a dagger symbol require the two 120V elements to be wired in series for 240V operation.
