Supported Applications

The Omega MTI-2 Series is a solution water type immersion heater designed for heating applications involving water-type media. The series features a durable Incoloy sheath intended to provide superior corrosion protection in these environments.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The MTI-2 Series operates on 1-phase power at voltages of 120, 240, or 480 V. Wattage ranges from 1.5 to 15 kW across the series configuration options.

• Sheath: 1.2 cm (0.475") diameter Incoloy
• Process Connection: 2 NPT stainless steel screw plug
• Watt Density: Ranges from 46 to 52 W/in² depending on the specific kW rating and element configuration.

The series includes a caution that fire and electrical shock may result if products are used improperly or installed by non-qualified personnel. The immersion heater should be used with an approved temperature control device to ensure safe operation.

Configuration Options

The MTI-2 Series is configurable across wattage, voltage, enclosure type, and physical dimensions (Dimension B). Model numbers follow the format MTI-<kW>_<ENCLOSURE_TYPE>/<VOLTAGE>.

Enclosure Options

• E1: General Purpose, NEMA 1 (IP00) rated and UL listed.
• E2: Moisture-Resistant/Explosion-Resistant enclosure. E2 models are CSA NRTL/C certified but are not intended for use in hazardous areas unless specified otherwise by model suffixes exceeding 48 amps.

Electrical and Conduit Specifications

• E1 Enclosure: 1.9 (0.75) conduit opening.
• E2 Enclosure: 3/4 NPT conduit opening.
• Voltage designation is required in the model number suffix (e.g., /120V, /240V, /480V).

Wetted Materials and Construction

• Incoloy Sheath.
• Stainless Steel Screw Plug.

The series supports configurations with 1 or 2 heating elements depending on the wattage. Models marked with a dagger (†) in documentation exceed 48 amps and have specific certification notes regarding UL listing for general purpose enclosures.

Key Product Differences

Variants within the MTI-2 Series differ primarily by power rating, enclosure type, voltage selection, and resulting physical dimensions. The "To Order" table defines distinct Dimension B values (in cm and inches) corresponding to each kW level and element count.

• 1.5 kW models utilize 1 heating element with a Dimension B of 11⁷/₁₆ (19).
• 2 kW models are available in configurations with either 1 or 2 elements, resulting in different Dimension B values: 17½ (44) for single-element and 7⁷/₁₆ (19) for dual-element.
• Higher wattage models up to 15 kW utilize 2 heating elements with increasing Dimension B lengths ranging from 8½ (22) to 53¹⁹/₃₂ (136).

Weight varies by enclosure type and model; E1 General Purpose enclosures range from 1 kg (3 lb) to 4 kg (8 lb), while E2 Moisture/Explosion Resistant enclosures range from 3 kg (6 lb) to 5 kg (11 lb).
