Supported Applications

The Omega DPi-AL Series comprises temperature and process meters with alarm outputs, designed for universal input measurement in industrial environments. These instruments support thermocouple (ITS 90), RTD (ITS 68), analog voltage, and analog current inputs to monitor process variables directly on the front panel.

Documented applications include:

  • Process Measurement: Monitoring temperature via J, K, T, E, R, S, B, C, N, L (J DIN) thermocouples and Pt sensors with 2-, 3- or 4-wire configurations.
  • Analog Signal Conditioning: Measuring voltage inputs from 0 to 100 mV, 0 to 1 V, and 0 to 10 Vdc; current inputs of 0 to 20 mA (5 Ω shunt).
  • Alarm Monitoring: Providing two relay outputs for high/low, above/below, band, latch/unlatch, normally open/normally closed, and process/deviation alarm operations.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The DPi-AL Series operates within an ambient temperature range of 0 to 55°C (32 to 131°F) with a humidity rating of 90% RH non-condensing. The meters feature front removable and plug connectors for electrical connection.

Performance specifications include:

  • Accuracy: ±0.5°C temperature; 0.03% rdg.
  • Reading Rate: 3 samples/s.
  • Temperature Stability: RTD: 0.04°C/°C; Thermocouple @ 25°C (77°F): 0.05°C/°C with cold junction compensation; Process: 50 ppm/°C.
  • Input Impedance: 10 MΩ for 100 mV, 1 MΩ for 1 or 10 Vdc.
  • Thermocouple Lead Resistance: 100 Ω maximum.

The series includes a built-in excitation of 24 Vdc @ 25 mA, which is not available with the low power option. Approvals include CE and UL US, backed by a 5 YEAR WARRANTY.

Display Specifications

  • 1/32 and 1/16 DIN: Single 4-digit 9-segment LED, 10.2 mm (0.40”).

Configuration Options

The DPi-AL Series offers configurable power options to suit different installation requirements:

  • Standard Power Option: 90 to 240 Vac ±10%, 50 to 400 Hz, or equivalent voltage of 110 to 300 Vdc.
  • Low Voltage Power Option: Supports 24 Vac or 12 to 36 Vdc. Note: An external power source must meet safety agency approvals for this option.

The series supports two relay alarm outputs (Alarm 1 and Alarm 2) with the following ratings:

  • Relay Type: SPDT, 250 Vac or 30 Vdc @ 3 A (resistive load).
  • Configuration: Front panel programmable for high/low, above/below, band, latch/unlatch, normally open/normally closed, and process/deviation modes.

Sensor inputs are configurable across the series to accommodate:

  • RTD Input (ITS 68): 100/500/1000 Ω; Pt sensor with 2-, 3- or 4-wire connections and 0.00385 or 0.00392 curves.
  • Thermocouple Types (ITS 90): J, K, T, E, R, S, B, C, N, L (J DIN).

  • DIN Size 1/8: Models such as DPi8-AL (90 to 240 Vac) and DPi8-AL-DC (12 to 36 Vdc). Features a larger display of 21 mm (0.83”) and NEMA 1/Type 1 front bezel protection.
  • DIN Size 1/16: Models such as DPi16-AL (90 to 240 Vac) and DPi16-AL-DC (12 to 36 Vdc). Features a display of 10.2 mm (0.40”) and NEMA 4X/Type 4 (IP65) front bezel protection.

All variants include two relay outputs with alarm functionality. The low power option models are identified by the "-DC" suffix in the model number guide, supporting 12 to 36 Vdc or 24 Vac inputs where standard models support universal AC/DC voltage ranges.

Shipping is a little slow, and even though I ordered the product from Omega located in Connecticut, the product shipped from California, and had I known this I would have selected a different shipping method.

As a follow-up to the thread about the LCGB-500 load cell, if the DPiS32 is powering the load cell, which port does the shield cable connect to?

There isn't any provision on the DPiS32 to connect the shield from the load cell. You would need to connect it to an external earth ground.

Is the DPiS32 compatible with the LCGB-500 load cell?

Yes, The DPiS32 is compatible with the LCGB-500 load cell. It will both power and read the output signal directly from the load cell. Please note that the DC powered version of the display (DPiS32-DC) does not have the built-in excitation power to drive the load cell. External excitation power would need to be provided to the load cell if you use a DC powered version of this display.

Is it possible to program the output to display a temperature reading directly correlated to the voltage input? (i.e. 2.175 VDC = 500°F or 4.51 VDC = 1000°F)

Yes, it can be done. If you start with the CNI32 or 16 or 8S, for strain, that unit has 10 point linearization and should be able to. However, we would like to better understand the application to confirm this and advise accurately. Please contact our Tech Support to best advise on the application and product recommendations. what does - opn mean on the display?

"OPN" on the display of the I Series panel meters means that the input signal is missing. Check wiring to the input to make certain connections are all there and complete and sensors attached are functioning properly. You can also check the INPUT type selected in the menu to make certain that the setting matches the actual input type being applied.

Is this compatible with LC103B-2K load cells?

The CNi/DPi Series controller/displays are not compatible with strain gage based sensors like the LC103B load cells. The CNiS/DPiS variants of this series are compatible with strain gage based sensors but they will only accept a unipolar input signal so you would not be able to use the load cell to measure in both tension and compression. Suggest you look at Platinum Series Controllers/Displays CN32PT,CN16PT,CN8PT,DP32PT,DP16PT and DP8PT.
