Supported Applications

The Rotronic Series HL, TL, and BL data loggers are designed for recording relative humidity, temperature, pressure, and dew point. The series is engineered for use in logistics, pharmaceuticals, pharmacies, production and storage environments, as well as display and test applications within buildings and museums.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The measurement envelope varies by model family. The HL-1D, BL-1D, and TL-1D models operate across a temperature range of -30...70 °C with humidity coverage from 0...100 %rh (non-condensing). For these units, accuracy is specified as ±2 %rh @ 23 °C ±5 K (10...90 %rh) and ±5 %rh for other ranges; temperature accuracy is ±0.3 K @ -30...70 °C / ±0.5 K others.

The HL-20D model covers a narrower operating range of 0...50 °C with humidity from 0...100 %rh (non-condensing). Its performance specifications include an accuracy of ±1.3 %rh @ 0...10 %rh, ±0.8 %rh @ 10...60 %rh, and ±1.3 %rh @ 60...100 %rh; temperature accuracy is ±0.3 °C.

Response times differ by sensor type: the HL-20D lists a typical response time of 3 min for humidity (depending on air flow) and 10 min for temperature (depending on air flow). The -1D series features an IP67 protection class, while the HL-20D is rated IP40.

Configuration Options

The series offers distinct configurations based on measurement parameters, storage capacity, and interface requirements:

• Sensor Types: Models include humidity-only (HL), temperature-only with high capacity (TL), or combined pressure, dew point, humidity, and temperature (BL). The HL-20D utilizes a ROTRONIC HYGROMER® IN-1 sensor for humidity and a PT100 RTD (IEC 751 Class A) for temperature. The -1D series uses an NTC element for temperature.
• Storage Capacity: Memory ranges from 20,000 value pairs on the HL-20D to up to 64,000 lines on select -1D models (32,000 lines standard).
• Data Interface & Display: The HL-20D features an optional LC display with backlight and alarm indicators, communicating via a UART interface using service cable AC3006. The -1D series includes a 2-line LCD display and communicates via USB-Mini port.
• Battery Power: Units are powered by either three AA (1.5 V) alkaline batteries (HL-20D) or one CR2 battery (-1D series).

Key Product Differences

The Rotronic Series HL/TL/BL encompasses several distinct model families with specific functional differences:

• HL-1D / BL-1D / TL-1D: Compact loggers (90 x 60 x 23 mm) designed for general logistics and pharma use. The HL-1D measures humidity and temperature; the BL-1D adds pressure (300...1100 hPa, accuracy ±3hPa @ 0...65 °C / ±5hPa others) and dew point calculation via WMO Standard; the TL-1D focuses on high-capacity temperature logging.
• HL-20D: A larger unit (130 x 72 x 32 mm, ABS housing) optimized for higher accuracy in controlled environments. It supports Start-Stop and Loop recording modes with intervals from min 5 sec up to 1 hour in 5 sec increments.
• Certifications: The -1D series is certified to EN 12830, while the HL-20D data sheet does not list specific certifications but notes compatibility with FDA/GAMP directives via HW4 software. Both families support FDA 21 CFR Part 11 / GAMP 5-compliant evaluation using Rotronic HW4 or HW5 software.
