Supported Applications
The Rotronic HF5 Series (HygroFlexAdvanced) comprises analog and digital transmitters designed to measure relative humidity, temperature, and dew point. The series is documented for use in heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), food processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, printing, and paper industries.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The electronics operating range depends on the presence of a display: models with a display operate from -10 to 60 °C; models without a display operate from -40 to 70 °C. The humidity measurement range is 0…100 %rh, non-condensing.
Accuracy and process temperature ranges are probe-dependent. Available probes include:
- Standard (HC2A-S) and Meteo (HC2A-S3): ±0.8 %rh / ±0.1 K at 23 °C; application range -50…100 °C.
- High Precision (HC2A-SH, HC2A-S3H): ±0.5 %rh / ±0.1 K at 23 °C; application range -50…100 °C.
- Rough Environment (HC2A-S(M)-HH): ±1.0 %rh / ±0.1 K at 23 °C; application range 0…60 °C.
- Industrial (HC2A-ICXXX, HC2A-IMXXX-M): ±0.8 %rh / ±0.1 K at 23 °C; application range -100…200 °C.
RMS digital probes are also supported with accuracies of ±0.8 %rh (humidity) and ±0.25 °C for temperature models in the 50…85 °C band, or ±1 % Full Scale for differential pressure variants (-500…500 Pa). Long-term stability is typically better than 1 %rh per year with clean air.
Configuration Options
The series supports multiple circuit configurations and output types across the HF5A-2, HF5A-3, and HF5A-D variants:
- Circuit Types: 2-wire or 2x2-wire (HF5A-2); 3-wire with jumper J1 mounted (default) or galvanically isolated 4-wire with jumper J1 removed (HF5A-3, HF5A-D).
- Analog Outputs: 4…20 mA; freely scalable 0…20 mA, 0…5 V, and 0…10 V.
- Digital Output: RS485 on screw terminal (HF5A-D only).
Housing materials consist of ABS for the bottom and PC for the top. The enclosure rating is IP65 with a fire protection class corresponding to UL94-HB. Electrical connections utilize 1 x M16 x 1.5 screw terminals (2 x M16 for HF5A-D). Power supply requirements are 18…36 VDC.
Key Product Differences
The series includes wall-mounted versions and supports duct mounting via extension cables and flanges such as the AC5005 (standard probe, up to 100 °C) or AC1305/AC1303-M (industrial probe, up to 200 °C). The HF5A-D variant adds digital RS485 communication capabilities. Configuration and firmware updates are performed via an NFC interface using the HygroSoft software with an NFC-USB-READER or a mobile device.
