Supported Applications
The HOBO MX1104 is a multi-channel, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) data logger that measures and wirelessly transmits temperature, relative humidity, and light intensity, plus an external analog input for attaching a wide variety of additional sensors. Being self-contained and wireless, it lets you use a mobile device and Onset's free HOBOconnect app to access data at any time, over a 100-foot range via Bluetooth Low Energy.
This four-parameter capability makes the MX1104 well suited to building science and energy studies, greenhouse and agricultural monitoring, cold-chain and storage checks, and general environmental research where temperature, humidity, and light must be tracked together. The analog channel extends its reach to current- and voltage-output sensors, so a single logger can capture a custom mix of measurements.
With an IP54-rated enclosure and user-replaceable batteries, the MX1104 is built for extended deployments indoors or in protected outdoor locations, and it is CE and FCC marked.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The logger operates across -20° to 70°C (-4° to 158°F) and delivers high measurement accuracy on each channel:
- Temperature: ±0.20°C from 0° to 50°C (±0.36°F from 32° to 122°F), with 0.002°C resolution at 25°C (0.004°F at 77°F)
- Relative humidity: ±2.5% from 10% to 90% to a maximum of ±3.5% including hysteresis at 25°C (77°F); ±5% below 10% and above 90%, at 0.01% resolution
- Light intensity: 0 to 167,731 lux (15,582 lum/ft2), ±10% for direct sunlight
Temperature response is rated at 30 seconds to 90% in airflow of 1 m/s (2.2 mph). The unit runs on two AAA 1.5 V alkaline batteries (user replaceable), weighs 123 g (4.34 oz), and measures 11.28 x 5.41 x 2.92 cm (4.44 x 2.13 x 1.15 in.).
Configuration Options
Although offered as a single logger, the MX1104's external analog input is what adapts it to different sensors. The channel can be configured for a specific current or voltage span, each paired with its own input cable, so the same logger can read a 4-20 mA transmitter one day and a voltage-output probe the next. Supported analog ranges and their accuracies are:
- 0 to 20.1 mA: ±0.001 mA ±0.2% of reading
- 0 to 2.5 V: ±0.1 mV ±0.1% of reading
- 0 to 5.0 V: ±0.2 mV ±0.3% of reading
- 0 to 10 V: ±0.4 mV ±0.3% of reading
- 0 to 24 V: ±1.0 mV ±0.3% of reading
The built-in temperature, humidity, and light channels are always available, while the analog channel is matched to the application by selecting the appropriate range and cable.
Key Product Differences
The series centers on one logger with a family of analog input cables that set the channel's measurement range:
- MX1104 — HOBO MX BLE temperature, RH, light, and analog data logger
- SD-MA-420 or CABLE-4-20mA — 0 to 20.1 mA current input
- SD-VOLT-2.5 or CABLE-2.5-STEREO — 0 to 2.5 V input
- SD-VOLT-05 or CABLE-ADAP5 — 0 to 5.0 V input
- SD-VOLT-10 or CABLE-ADAP10 — 0 to 10 V input
- SD-VOLT-24 or CABLE-ADAP24 — 0 to 24 V input
All variations connect back to the same logger and app, so the analog cable chosen simply defines the range and resolution of the external channel.
