Supported Applications

Super OMEGACLAD® XL Probes are high-temperature thermocouple probes designed for use up to 1335°C (2435°F). Each probe uses a mineral-insulated Super OMEGACLAD XL sheath that delivers excellent oxidation, carburization, and chlorination resistance, allowing the probes to survive aggressive process atmospheres that would degrade conventional sheath materials.

The probes are well suited to temperature measurement in combustion gases and air, in high temperature chlorine-contaminated oxidizing environments, and in ammonia/nitride-rich environments. They are available with Type K or Type N calibration wire and in standard or metric dimensions, and each is supplied with a universal connector and clamp. The probes are made in the USA.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The probes carry a measurement range of 0 to 1250 °C (32 to 2282 °F). For service temperature, they are rated up to 1335°C (2435°F) for short duration and 1150°C (2100°F) for continuous use; published performance data was established by means of an electric furnace at a static 1150°C (2100°F) temperature in an air environment.

Sensing conforms to Tolerance Class 1 and meets or exceeds Special Limits of Error and EN 60584-2. For both Type K and Type N wire over the 0 to 1250 (32 to 2282) range, the limit of error is ±2.2°C (4°F) or 0.75% for standard limits and ±1.1°C (2°F) or 0.4% for special limits.

Sheath diameters span 1.5 mm to 6.0 mm (0.062" to 0.25"), and probe lengths are offered at 6", 12", 18", and 24" (150 mm, 300 mm, 450 mm, 600 mm). Junction type is specified as grounded/exposed (G/E) or ungrounded (U). Probes with 0.032" diameter and larger are supplied with molded transition joints, while smaller sizes are supplied with stainless steel transition joints.

Configuration Options

The range is organized by connection and termination style, and every style shares the same Super OMEGACLAD XL sheath and calibration options. The variants differ along the following axes:

• Connection style — molded Quick Connect probes, Utility Handle probes (with the RSC removable handle), and Industrial Head / transition-junction probes provide different terminations for panel plug-in, hand-held use, or fixed conduit-head installation.
• Calibration — Type K or Type N wire, allowing the same physical probe to serve either thermocouple curve; other calibrations can be requested.
• Sheath diameter — a choice of diameters within the 1.5 mm to 6.0 mm (0.062" to 0.25") span, trading mechanical strength for faster response as diameter decreases.
• Junction type — grounded or exposed (G/E) versus ungrounded (U), selected to balance response speed against electrical isolation.
• Dimensional system and length — standard (inch) or metric (mm) construction in lengths of 6", 12", 18", and 24".

The transition-joint construction itself changes with diameter: at 0.032" diameter and larger a molded transition joint is used, and below that a stainless steel transition joint is fitted. Replacement probes are available for Industrial Head assemblies by adding a -RP suffix to the part number.

Models are ordered by combining the connection-style prefix with the sheath diameter, junction type, and length, following the format shown by the ordering example KQXL-18U-12 (a molded Quick Connect probe, Type K, 1/8" O.D., ungrounded junction, 12").

Within each style the diameter code (for example 116, 14, or 316), the junction letter (E, G, or U), and the trailing length in inches (12, 18, or 24) can be varied to build the required probe, in either the standard or metric dimension series.
