Supported Applications

The Omega PX1004 and PX1009 series are sputtered thin-film pressure transducers engineered for high-temperature service. These instruments provide static accuracy of ±0.25% FSO, BSL (over the compensated temperature range) with thermal zero and sensitivity shifts less than ±0.01%/°F. Documented applications include engine test stands, high-temperature testing, process monitoring, ground support equipment, and high-temperature geothermal generators.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series operates across distinct temperature envelopes depending on the model: PX1004 functions from -54 to 232°C (-65 to 450°F), while PX1009 extends operation to -54 to 343°C (-65 to 650°F). The compensated temperature range is 24 to 204°C (75 to 400°F) for the PX1004 and 24 to 316°C (75 to 600°F) for the PX1009. Performance specifications are determined at 25°C ±1°C (77°F ±2°F), open circuit, with rated excitation of 10 Vdc.

Pressure ranges span from 0-15 psi (0 to 1 bar) up to 0-10,000 psi (0 to 689 bar). The sensing element utilizes a 4-active-arm bridge using sputter-deposited thin-film elements. Wetted parts are constructed of 17-4 PH vacuum or 15-5 stainless steel within an all-welded stainless steel pressure cavity and double-isolated case.

Dynamic performance includes a natural frequency of 50 kHz at 5000 psi, decreasing logarithmically to 5 kHz at 15 psi. The series withstands shock up to 100 g (11 ms half sine wave) without calibration shift or damage and meets humidity requirements per MIL-STD-810, Method 507.1.

Configuration Options

The PX1004/1009 series offers configurable options for pressure ports, electrical connections, output types, and calibration services to meet specific installation requirements.

  • Pressure Port: 7/16-20 male per MS33656-4 (designated 'L' in model numbers).
  • Electrical Connection: PX1004 models feature a twist-lock PCIH-10-6P connector or equivalent; the mating connector PCS06E10-6S is sold separately and noted as non-RoHS. PX1009 models utilize color-coded pigtail leads, 0.8 m (30") long minimum.
  • Output Signal: Base configuration provides an mV/V output with a full range of 30 mV nominal (26 mV minimum) and input/output resistance of 400 Ω nominal.
  • Pressure Type: Standard models are available as gage pressure; sealed gage pressure is ordered by replacing 'A' in the model number with 'S' at no extra charge.
  • Ranges and Units: Available ranges include 0-15 psi through 0-10,000 psi (psi) or metric equivalents up to 689 bar. Metric ranges are available upon consultation with Engineering.
  • Options: An 11-point NIST-traceable calibration is available as an extra-cost option (CAL11).

Key Product Differences

The series comprises two primary model families distinguished by maximum operating temperature and electrical interface. The PX1004 supports a process temperature up to 232°C (-65 to 450°F) and utilizes the PCIH-10-6P connector. The PX1009 extends the upper temperature limit to 343°C (-65 to 650°F) and employs color-coded pigtail leads instead of a twist-lock connector.

Pressure ratings differ between models: proof pressure is rated at 200% of rated pressure for PX1004 and 150% for PX1009. Burst pressure limits are set at 300% of rated pressure for the PX1004 and 200% for the PX1009.

Insulation resistance varies by model, specified as 100MΩ or greater at 50Vdc for the PX1004 and 50MΩ or greater at 50Vdc for the PX1009. Vibration sensitivity thresholds also differ; for example, at 35 g peak from 10 Hz to 2000 Hz (limited to ½" D.A.), output limits range from 0.04% FSO/g down to 0.003% FSO/g depending on the specific pressure rating and model.

Can these transducers be used to measure pressure of liquid resin lines?

Asked by: 29Tyler
The PX1004 Series pressure transducers have all stainless steel parts so they are compatible with most gases or liquids. The problem using it with resin is that the sensing diaphragm is recessed into the threaded process connection. If the resin solidifies when its cools off it will plug up the cavity where the diaphram is located causing the sensor to be inoperative.
