Supported Applications
The XCIB Series comprises High-Temperature Inconel® Overbraided Silica Fiber Insulated Thermocouples. Each sensor is double-protected with an abrasion-resistant Inconel® overbraid over high-temperature fiber insulation, giving it the mechanical durability and thermal endurance needed for demanding heat-treatment environments.
These thermocouples are designed for oven and furnace profiling, where flexible, rugged sensors must survive repeated exposure to extreme heat. They are available in 5 convenient styles (1–5) for easy application and can be supplied in J, K, E and N thermocouple types to suit a wide range of process control and calibration tasks.
The sheath is Inconel 600®, and the probe diameter is 4.8 mm (3/16"). For assemblies that must ship with a calibration, use the prefix CAL- on the model number.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The XCIB thermocouples withstand 980°C (1800°F) continuous service and 1038°C short-term. The Inconel 600® overbraid and high-temperature fiber insulation are what allow this dual continuous/short-term rating in oven and furnace profiling.
A range of electrical terminations is offered, each with its own temperature limit. Ceramic beaded leads with compensated spade lugs and Nextel® insulated leads with compensated spade lugs are available for direct high-temperature runs, while connectorized options include the OMEGA® OSTW male standard thermocouple connector rated to 220°C (425°F) and the OMEGA® NHXH high-temperature ceramic male connector rated to 650°C (1200°F). Miniature options include the SMPW mini-male connector to 220°C (425°F) max and the SHX mini-male ceramic connector to 650°C (1200°F) max.
Configuration Options
Within the series, models differ along four independent axes: thermocouple type, probe style, termination type and length.
Thermocouple type sets the alloy pair and useful range: J is Iron-Constantan, K is CHROMEGA®-ALOMEGA®, E is CHROMEGA®-Constantan, and N is OMEGALLOY®-NICROSIL-NISIL.
Probe style selects one of the 5 convenient styles (1–5), while termination type chooses how the sensor is connected:
- 1: Ceramic beaded leads with compensated spade lugs.
- 2: Type OSTW male standard thermocouple connector to 220°C (425°F).
- 3: Type NHXH male ceramic connector to 650°C (1200°F).
- 4: Nextel® insulated leads with compensated spade lugs.
- 5: Stripped leads.
- 6: SMPW mini-male connector to 220°C (425°F) max.
- 7: SHX mini-male ceramic connector to 650°C (1200°F) max.
Length is specified in feet, with 3' or 10' as the standard options. A grounded or ungrounded junction can be specified, and a Nextel-insulated version is available at no extra charge by changing the XCIB prefix to XSIB.
Key Product Differences
Model numbers follow the structure XCIB-<thermocouple_type>-<probe_style>-<termination_type>-<length_in_feet>. For example, XCIB-K-1-3-10 designates a Type K probe, probe style 1, termination Type 3, at a 10' length. Representative catalog numbers include XCIB-K-4-2-10, XCIB-J-4-3-3, XCIB-E-4-1-10 and XCIB-N-4-5-10, along with the ungrounded XCIB-K-4-2-10-UNGROUNDED.
The XSIB equivalents, such as XSIB-K-4-1-10 and XSIB-J-4-2-3, substitute Nextel® insulation for the same configurations. Custom lengths and sizes are available, and connector plug options can be appended to the model number: add 'M8-S-M' or 'M12-S-M' for a male straight M8 or M12 plug, or 'M8-R-M' for a male right-angled M8 plug.

Out-of-box accuracy issue
This item seems well built, and came in time - but was off from room temperature by -25F right out of the box. I'm working with Omega to see if they'll replace it; I understand the need to learn and make corrections - but it's a little frustrating to wait for that process.

Do these thermocouples come with a calibration certificate?
Thank you for your inquiry. These sensors only come with a Certificate of Conformance (CAL-1). CAL-1 documents that the products you buy comply with Omega's specifications. If you need a NIST certificate of calibration with this product, please send a quote request to sales@omega.com

Do the thermocouples have a required installed orientation?
Thank you for your inquiry. No required install orientation. Thermocouples are very flexible in-terms of how they are installed. You try to put them in the best position to get your temperature reading.

Can these be ordered in a custom length? Can the probe end be welded to a surface?
Yes the probes can be ordered in custom lengths and if you use the configure now feature on the page you can select that on your own. The style 4 connection should allow a weld instead of using the screw hole but heat should be kept to a minimum.

Do these thermo couples have UL certification?
Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, no, they do not have UL certification.
