Supported Applications
The Omega RAT-TJ series comprises rugged Transition Joint High-Temperature Platinum Assemblies designed for temperature measurement in oxidizing or reducing atmospheres. These assemblies feature a stainless steel support tube and are rated up to 1650°C (3000°F). The product line includes standard probe configurations as well as versions with an optional compression fitting that allows field positioning of the immersion length.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series is engineered for high-temperature service, supporting process temperatures up to 1650°C (3000°F). The probe diameter measures ¼" (6.35 mm), with insertion lengths that are variable when configured with a compression fitting or fixed based on the selected model length. Standard overall dimensions include a 38 mm (1.50") head and a 27 mm (1.06") transition section for models such as RAT-TJ36-30-12, which features a 300 mm (12") probe.
Wetted materials consist of High-Purity Alumina Protection Tubes, Stainless Steel Support Tubes, and Double Bore High-Purity Hard-Fired Alumina Insulators. The series supports NIST Traceable Calibration availability upon request.
Configuration Options
- Thermocouple Calibrations: Available in Type R (Pt vs Pt 13% Rh), Type S (Pt vs Pt 10% Rh), and Type B (Pt 6% Rh vs Pt 30% Rh).
- Wire Sizes: Offered in 24 AWG or 30 AWG. Note that Type B is specified as 26 AWG stranded.
- Housing and Mounting: Standard configurations include stripped leads; optional compression fittings (SSLK-38-14 for ¼" mounting thread, SSLK-38-38 for ⅜" mounting thread) enable field positioning. A stainless steel support tube is available on specific models.
- Connectors: Standard NHX Ceramic Connector rated to 650°C (1200°F); HSTW Liquid Crystal Polymer connector rated to 260°C (500°F). Optional connectors include SMPW, SHX, OSTW, and NHX-M.
- Cable Options: Lead wires are available with Fiberglass or PFA insulation. BX armored cable is an optional configuration.
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes between standard probe assemblies and those equipped with a stainless steel support tube and optional compression fitting, indicated by the "ST4" designation in model numbers (e.g., RAT-TJ36-ST4-30-12). Model numbering follows the format RAT/SAT/BAT-TJXX-CALIBRATION-AWG-LENGTH-OPTIONS, where calibration prefixes denote Type R, S, or B. Additional suffixes modify the configuration: "-SB" denotes lead wires over 1 m (40"); "-TT" indicates a specific termination; and connector types are appended as "-SMPW-M", "-SHX-M", "-OSTW-M", or "-NHX-M". Custom probe lengths exceeding standard dimensions require modifying the length digit in the model number.

Hello, what is the type of threads that are used on the mounting fitting (model no. SSLK-38-14 & SSLK-38-14)? E.g., NPT?
Thank you for your inquiry. SSLK-38-14 has a 1/4" NPT male.

Hello, It is possible this probe would function at -60degC?
Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, these probes are not rated for measuring -60degC.
