Supported Applications
The Omega Super OMEGACLAD™ XL Thermocouple Probes are mineral insulated (MI) temperature sensors engineered for high-performance measurement in demanding environments. These probes offer resistance to carburization, oxidation, and chlorination, making them suitable for applications requiring long life and low drift at elevated temperatures.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series is designed to handle process temperatures up to 1335°C (2400°F). Accuracy meets or exceeds Special Limits of Error (SLE) and EN 60584-2: Tolerance Class 1. The probes exhibit super stable temperature drift of less than 2.8°C (37°F) in 25 weeks.
Response times vary by sheath diameter, with approximate values for ungrounded probes tested in water:
- 0.25 sec** (0.8 mm)
- 0.3 sec** (1.6 mm)
- 0.55 sec** (3.2 mm)
- 2.25 sec** (6.4 mm)
A 0.8 mm (0.032") probe is documented to withstand 815°C (1500°F) for 3 years.
Configuration Options
The series supports K and N calibrations only, utilizing CHROMEGA™-ALOMEGA™ XL Sheath or OMEGA-P™-OMEGA-N™ XL Sheath materials. Probes are available in various styles including Quick-Connect, Transition Junction, Industrial Head, and Utility Handle configurations.
Sheath diameters span both imperial and metric dimensions:
- Inches: 0.010 in, 0.020 in, 0.032 in, 0.040 in, 0.062 in, 0.125 in (1/8), 1/16 in, 3/16 in, 1/4 in, 5/16 in, and 3/8 in.
- Millimeters: 1.5 mm, 3.0 mm, 4.5 mm, 6.0 mm, 8.0 mm, 9.5 mm, as well as smaller diameters including 0.25 mm, 0.5 mm, and 0.75 mm.
Overall lengths are offered in inches (6 in, 12 in, 18 in, 24 in) and millimeters (150 mm, 300 mm, 450 mm, 600 mm). Junction types include 'G' (Grounded), 'E' (Exposed), 'U' (Ungrounded), or 'S' (Surface).
Connector options and accessories:
- Molded Standard Connector
- Miniature Connector
- Heavy-Duty Transition Junction Probe
- Miniature Transition Junction Probe
- Dual Elements configuration available
- Male straight M8 plug (add "M8-S-M" to model number)
- Male right-angled M8 plug (add "M8-R-M" to model number)
- Male straight M12 plug (add "M12-S-M" to model number)
- Replacement Probes Available
Note: For probes with 0.75 mm diameter and larger, molded transition joints are supplied; smaller-sized probes use stainless steel transition joints with stripped leads standard.
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes between K (CHROMEGA™-ALOMEGA™ XL) and N (OMEGA-P™-OMEGA-N™ XL) alloy calibrations. Model numbers follow the format: <ANSI Color Code/Alloy> - <Sheath Dia.> - <Junction Type> - <Length> (example: KQXL-18U-12). Specific model prefixes indicate probe style, such as KMQXL/**NMQXL** for miniature connectors and **TJ36-** or **NB(*)-** for transition junctions.
PFA coating is available by ordering the standard model number with a suffix '-PFA', limited to 200°C (400°F) max. Mating connectors and clamps are sold separately.

Failed on First Try
I purchased the type N thermocouple to use for high temperature applications at 1250C. The Omega spec sheet says it should be good to 1338C, or at least to 1260C as listed on other sites. The first time using it at 1250C it failed within ten minutes. It doesn't help trying to figure out what's going wrong that the composition of the sheath, made of Omega-P and Omega-N cannot be found anywhere.

Hi, I have a question for your product KMQXL-062U-24, is the probe you sell bendable? And is there a need to buy extension wires to connect the thermocouple to the thermometer? Thanks!
Thank you for contacting Omega. Yes, we can confirm that the probe is bendable to 90 degrees. Depending on the application, the need to buy extension wires to connect the thermocouple to the thermometer will vary. This probe can be directly connected to a thermometer, which accepts the mini thermocouple connector. However, if the application is in a tight place, you may need extension wire to connect to a thermometer. Please contact our Tech Support if you have any further questions.

For probes such as KMQXL-062G-6, Super OMEGACLAD™ Thermocouple Probes - Quick D, do they come with a calibration cert? Do you need to calibrate it periodically?
The probes will come with a CAL-1 Certificate of Conformance and it is advised to check for calibration once per year or more frequently if used in a critical or at high temperatures.
