Supported Applications
The Omega KMTXL and NMTXL series comprises Super OMEGACLAD® XL Thermocouple Probes with lead wires, engineered for high-performance temperature measurement in demanding environments. These mineral insulated (MI) probes are designed to resist carburization, oxidation, and chlorination while maintaining stability at extremely small diameters.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series supports process temperatures up to 1335°C (2400°F), with specific documentation noting that a 0.8 mm probe can withstand 815°C for 3 years. Accuracy meets or exceeds Special Limits of Error (SLE) and EN 60584-2: Tolerance Class 1, exhibiting less than 2.8°C (37°F) drift in 25 weeks under test conditions using ungrounded probes in an open-air electric muffle furnace versus a Type 'S', NIST-traceable standard.
Response times vary by sheath diameter for ungrounded junctions in water:
- 0.8 mm: 0.25 sec
- 1.6 mm: 0.3 sec
- 3.2 mm: 0.55 sec
- 6.4 mm: 2.25 sec
Note that individual results may vary depending on the customer application and operating environment.
Configuration Options
The series offers extensive configuration options across sensor elements, sheath materials, dimensions, junction types, lengths, and connector styles. Selection is defined by ANSI color code/alloy, diameter (inches or millimeters), junction type, and length.
Sensor Elements & Sheath Materials
- Type K: CHROMEGA®-ALOMEGA® XL Sheath
- Type N: OMEGA-P®-OMEGA-N® XL Sheath
Dimensions and Lengths
Diameters range from 0.010 in to 3/8 in (including metric equivalents such as 0.25 mm, 0.75 mm, 1.0 mm, up to 9.5 mm). Standard lengths include:
- Inches: 6, 12, 18, or 24
- Millimeters: 150, 300, 450, or 600 mm
Smaller-sized probes are supplied with stainless steel transition joints and stripped leads as standard.
Junction Types & Electrical Connections
- Junction Options: 'G' (Grounded), 'E' (Exposed), 'U' (Ungrounded), or 'S' (Surface)
- Standard Connection: Universal connector and clamp included
- M8/M12 Plug Options: Male straight M8 plug ('M8-S-M'), male right-angled M8 plug ('M8-R-M'), male straight M12 plug ('M12-S-M'), or male right-angled M12 plug (add 'M12-S-M' to model number)
Probe Assemblies & Options
The series supports various assembly configurations including molded standard connectors, miniature connectors, heavy-duty transition junction probes, miniature transition junction probe assemblies, industrial head probe assemblies, and utility handle probes. Dual elements are available as an option.Key Product Differences
The KMTXL-NMTXL series distinguishes itself through the Super OMEGACLAD® XL sheath technology, which provides a stated life expectancy up to 10 times greater than competing devices. Model numbers follow specific patterns based on alloy (K or N), diameter code, junction type suffix ('G', 'E', 'U'), and length.
Model number examples include:
- KQXL-18U-12: Type K, 1/8" OD, ungrounded junction, 12"
- TJ36-CAXL-116[*]-[**]: Transition Junction Probe assemblies (Type K)
- NB(*)-CAXL-116[*]-[**]: Industrial Head Probe Assemblies and Replacement Probes (Type K)
Replacement probes are available for the series. Note that certain diameters will be manually assembled rather than molded.

If I buy a "High Temp Low Drift Thermocouple Probes with Lead Wire", would Universal connector and clamp will be also included?
You will get the probe with lead wire and stripped ends as no connector is included and would need to be ordered separately.

It only mentions the maximum temperature. What is the lowest temperature it can measure? Can it measure -40 C? Thanks.
This probe can measure down to cryogenic (down to -196 deg C), so will be fine at -40 deg C. Please note that the Accuracy
Specs only apply to 0 deg C and above, in accordance to ANSI standards for Special Limits of Error thermocouples.
