Supported Applications
The Omega FPD2000 Series consists of positive displacement gear flow meters designed for the measurement of oil, grease, fuel, solvents, polyurethanes, brake fluid, Skydrol, and other nonabrasive lubricating fluids. The series is engineered to maintain consistent accuracy despite changing viscosity conditions, offering a large turndown range suitable as an affordable replacement for older turbine technology.
These meters are well suited for applications requiring good resolution and high accuracy at low flow rates. Because the design does not require straight run piping upstream or downstream of the flowmeter, installation is simplified in constrained spaces. The series supports bi-directional flow measurement without damage to internal parts, such as for cylinder position measurements.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The FPD2000 Series delivers an accuracy of ±0.5% Rdg and repeatability of ±0.1%. Accuracy is specified at ±0.5% over a 10:1 turndown with 30cP fluid. The maximum pressure rating for the series is 345 bar (5000 psi).
Process temperature limits depend on the body material:
- Aluminum Body: Maximum fluid temperature of 85°C (185°F)
- Stainless Steel Body: Maximum fluid temperature of 204°C (400°F)
Ambient operating temperatures for standard aluminum and stainless steel versions range from -40 to 85°C (-40 to 185°F). The update time is defined as 1/F + 25 msec. Fluids must be free of particles larger than the specified filtration limits, which vary by model size (30 microns for FPD20X1 through X4; 200 microns for FPD20X5).
Configuration Options
The series is configurable across body materials, output signal types, and process connection sizes to meet specific installation requirements.
Body Materials & Wetted Parts
- Bodies: Aluminum (FPD200x Series), 303 SS (FPD201x Series), or 316 SS (FPD202x Series)
- Gears & Bearings: Stainless steel
- O-Rings: PTFE, with FKM available as an optional material
Output Signals & Electrical Specifications
- Pulse Output (Square Wave): Provides a 50% ±15% duty signal up to 2000 Hz. Requires +10 to 28 Vdc supply and drives a maximum resistive load of 50 mA via a 6-pin connector.
- Analog Output (4 to 20 mA): Available on models with the "-A" suffix. Operates on 10 to 30 Vdc, accepts input from 0.25 Hz to 5 kHz, and features ±0.01% rdg linearity via a 3-pin connector.
- High Temperature Option: Stainless steel models can be configured with the "-HT" suffix for high temperature pickup systems.
Process Connections & Ranges
NPT process connections are available in 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and 1 1/4 sizes. Measurement ranges span from 0.01 to 3 LPM (0.003 to 0.8 GPM) up to 1.9 to 227 LPM (0.5 to 60 GPM), depending on the specific model variant.
Key Product Differences
The FPD2000 Series is differentiated by body material and output configuration:
- FPD200x Models (Aluminum): Designed for standard temperature applications up to 85°C (185°F). Available with pulse or analog outputs.
- FPD201x & FPD202x Models (Stainless Steel): Constructed from 303 SS and 316 SS respectively, these models support higher process temperatures up to 204°C (400°F). The "-HT" suffix denotes the High Temperature Pickup System option for stainless steel variants.
- Analog Output Models (-A Suffix): These units include an internal electronics housing that adds 12 cm (4.8") to the overall body height compared to pulse output models.
