Supported Applications

The OM-EL-WIFI Series comprises high accuracy wireless temperature and humidity data loggers that measure temperature and/or humidity and transmit their readings over WiFi to a PC for viewing and analysis with free software. Because the family spans single- and dual-channel models with internal sensors, removable thermistor probes, and thermocouple inputs, it covers monitoring tasks ranging from ambient room and storage conditions through to demanding process points reached with an external probe.

Every logger runs on a rechargeable internal lithium polymer battery and carries an integrated LCD display, so readings are visible at the device as well as at the PC. The enclosure is rated IP55 for use in dusty or splash-prone locations, and with a mounting bracket the unit measures 97.3 H x 71.3 W x 26.36 mm D (3.8 x 2.8 x 1.04") and weighs 43 g (1.5 oz), keeping it compact for wall or bench mounting.

Humidity models resolve the full 0 to 100% RH band, thermistor-probe models reach process temperatures of -40 to 125°C (-40 to 257°F), and thermocouple-input models accept Type K, Type J, and Type T sensors with a display range of -99.9 to 999.9°C or °F, so the series suits cold storage, cleanrooms, laboratories, and industrial process monitoring alike.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The data loggers operate over an ambient range of -20 to 60°C (-4 to 140°F). Models fitted with a removable thermistor probe extend measurement at the probe to -40 to 125°C (-40 to 257°F), with the probe clip rated for -40 to 100°C (-40 to 212°F). Thermocouple-input models read Type K over -200 to 1350°C (-328 to 2462°F) and Type J over -200 to 1100°C (-328 to 2174°F).

Temperature performance varies by model, reflecting standard and high accuracy (PLUS) builds:

  • OM-EL-WIFI-TH: ±0.3°C (±0.5°F) over 5 to 60°C, with a maximum error of ±0.8°C (±1.4°F) over -20 to 60°C; resolution 0.5°C (1.0°F) display and 0.1°C (0.18°F) recorded.
  • OM-EL-WIFI-TH-PLUS: ±0.2°C (±0.4°F) over 5 to 60°C, with a maximum error of ±0.8°C (±1.4°F) over -20 to 60°C; resolution 0.5°C (1.0°F) display and 0.01°C (0.01°F) recorded.
  • OM-EL-WIFI-TP: ±0.6°C, maximum ±1.0°C; resolution 0.1°C (0.1°F).
  • OM-EL-WIFI-TP-PLUS: ±0.1°C, maximum ±0.3°C; resolution 0.01°C (0.01°F).
  • OM-EL-WIFI-DTP-PLUS: ±0.2°C, maximum ±0.6°C; resolution 0.01°C (0.01°F).

Humidity models resolve 1% RH and, on the OM-EL-WIFI-TH, hold an accuracy of ±2.5% RH over 20 to 80% RH and a maximum of ±5.0% RH over 0 to 100% RH; the OM-EL-WIFI-TH-PLUS improves this to ±2.5% RH over 10 to 90% RH and a maximum of ±4.0% RH over 0 to 100% RH. The OM-EL-WIFI-TH stores 500,000 temperature and 500,000 humidity readings, while thermistor-probe models store 1,000,000 temperature readings.

Recharging is handled through a USB port. The battery charges safely when the unit is operating between 0 to 40°C (32 to 104°F) and is protected against charging outside this range; readings may be inaccurate during charging. All models are CE and FCC marked and carry a 1 year warranty.

Configuration Options

The series is organized around sensor style and a standard-versus-PLUS accuracy tier, following the model number structure OM-EL-WIFI — MODEL — PLUS.

Internal-sensor models

OM-EL-WIFI-T and OM-EL-WIFI-T-PLUS use an internal temperature sensor. Both cover -20 to 60°C (-4 to 140°F); the standard T reads ±0.5°C over -10 to 50°C and resolves 0.1°C (0.1°F), while the T-PLUS resolves 0.01°C (0.01°F) for finer recording. The OM-EL-WIFI-TH and OM-EL-WIFI-TH-PLUS add internal humidity measurement across 0 to 100% RH.

Removable thermistor-probe models

OM-EL-WIFI-TP, OM-EL-WIFI-TP-PLUS, and the dual-channel OM-EL-WIFI-DTP-PLUS use a high-temperature flexible cable with a 304 SS end cap, extending measurement to -40 to 125°C (-40 to 257°F). The TP has a 50 cm (19.7") cable and a 25 x 4.8 mm dia (1 x 0.188") end cap, whereas the TP-PLUS and DTP-PLUS use a longer 300 cm (118.1") cable and a 75 x 4.95 mm dia (2.95 x 0.19") end cap. The PLUS builds sharpen accuracy from the TP's ±0.6°C down to ±0.1°C on the TP-PLUS, and the DTP-PLUS adds a second probe channel at ±0.2°C.

Thermocouple-input models

OM-EL-WIFI-TC is a single-channel thermocouple-input logger and OM-EL-WIFI-DTC is a dual-channel version. The TC includes one Type K beaded wire thermocouple and the DTC includes two Type K beaded wire thermocouples. Both accept Type K and Type J sensors, reading -200 to 1350°C (-328 to 2462°F) and -200 to 1100°C (-328 to 2174°F) respectively.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job Bought this to remotely monitor temperature in a residence. Does essentially what I need it to. Would really like to see an API so I can integrate it into my network more fully. Don't really like to have this information in the cloud.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Troublesome but Great We had to purchase a new, used computer as our existing ones operated on windows 10, and this product is only compatible with windows 7. This caused quite a bit of frustration, but after spending more money on a computer we did get your monitor working and it is doing the job we wanted it to do. So, having said all that, please let us know when you have a windows 10 version of the product, Thanks, Steven Baker

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Wi-Fi Functionality misleading This unit is supposedly designed for use on a Wi-Fi network, but it doesn't work with the most up to date WiFi encryption (WPA2). Omega happily handled the return, but this is obviously a significant design limitation of this device that should be stated upfront.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Troublesome, Not Trustworthy, Fails Calibration I've had two of these units, the OM-EL-WIFI-TH and the TH+. They're easy to use and have a nice display. You have to pay $8/mo to monitor them, but the software is nice and has great features. However, if you need a unit that's calibrated this isn't for you. Initial calibration was great. Year 2: failed calibration until they charged it all the way and then it passed. Year 3: failed calibration regardless if it was fully charged or not. Don't buy this if calibration accuracy is important to you.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Excellent Device for Loggin Data, bad connection I bought this data logger to record the temperatures of the freezer and refrigerator at my company. The set up is easy and the logger pages are great but the device does not stay synced with the PC and would never set up on the cloud. The customer support was great, which attempted to assist me with the issues through a couple of weeks of trouble shooting. Unfortunately I could not resolve these issues. The set up on the PC go through the setup great and the device connects to the network as well as sets up the computer but after a few data downloads by the device it looses connection and cannot reestablish the connection to the network. I get the blinking antenna of death. As for the cloud, I do get through the connection to the Newark but the device continues to fail in the final setup so I never did get the device linked to the cloud. Bottom line, the logging portion of the device is great but the connection side needs work. I will set my calendar reminder to download the data by way of USB every month to retain for records. So do not purchase this device if you would like a wireless data logger because it flat out does not operate properly, which I'm sure there are cheaper data loggers out there that just record with no WiFi or just network wired connection.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Very Inaccurate RH% in Controlled Enviorment Have used these for 8 years. Some from a few years back are starting to loose the ability to connect to WIFI. Ordered replacement. The new item arrived defective reading +5% lower than actual RH%. Returned product for warranty. After 1 1/2 months product was "verified" out of spec and a replacement was issued. Opened up the replacement......replacement was also out of spec. Customer service unable to provide timely help. Received a bill for the warranty shipping today as well.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing. I purchased this temperature logger to replace an old paper chart recorder when I became head of our quality control department. I chose Omega (this unit is rebranded and offered by several companies) because I've used and trusted their products for many years. I've either been fortunate up until now, or Omega has significantly lowered their standards because this is absolute trash. Very tedious to set up on Wi-Fi, and if your company has any security protocols (which, I would imagine most corporations do) forget about setting it up on any kind of network. So, I decided to suck it up and just connect through USB. Now it is having issues simply installing on the PC. I updated the software AND firmware (which is not surprisingly through a third party) and still no luck. Basically I have a $300 digital thermometer.

is there a calibration certificate coming with instrument, and If so, is it traceable to ILAC-MRA standards?

Asked by: paulo
Hi, thanks for connecting with us. The calibration certificate is an additional purchase. If you order this at the time of purchase, it would come with the logger. Yes, our certificates are NIST traceable as well as traceable to ILAC-MRA standards. MDQ Calibration Laboratory is accredited to ISO 17025:2005 by PJLA which is an MRA Signatory of ILAC. The insignia for both ILAC-MRA and PJLA are included on our calibration certificates. Please contact us if you have any further questions.

A previous question asked about the amount of time needed to acclimate or get to full accuracy. After these sensors have "acclimated", will they be sensitive enough to monitor small changes(0-2%) over a period of seconds/minutes?

Asked by: Zach 2
Hello Zach The unit runs via a WiFi connection, it is limited to the speed of the network. Reading intervals are as fast as one every ten minutes, as slow as one every ten hours, the resolution for humidity is 1% and for temperature is 0.1
