Supported Applications

The PX409S Tri-Grip Sanitary Series comprises high-accuracy sanitary pressure transducers and transmitters built on micro-machined silicon technology. They are designed for pressure or level measurement in clean-in-place (CIP) systems and are ideal for food processing, beverage and bio/pharmaceutical applications, as well as rugged industrial duties.

Process connection is by a 1-1/2 in or 2 in Tri-Grip fitting (compatible with Tri-Clamp), so the units work with commercially available sanitary pipes and fittings. Wetted parts are 316L SS in a welded stainless steel construction, and the fill fluid is NEOBEE M5 food grade. Every unit meets the Requirements of 3-A Sanitary Standards and ships with a 5-point NIST traceable calibration (zero and span values, calibrated in the horizontal direction).

Operating Conditions & Performance

Accuracy is ±0.08% BSL best straight line, combining linearity, hysteresis and repeatability; compound gage models are calibrated in the positive direction only. Response time is <1 mS, and long-term (1-year) stability is ±0.1% FS typical. Zero balance and span setting are each ±0.5% FS typical, ±1% max. The transducer withstands 1 million cycles of pressure and weighs 285 g.

The operating temperature range is -15 to 115 degC. The compensated temperature range is 4.4 to 60 degC for ranges ≤ 5 psi and -4 to 85 degC for ranges > 5 psi. Minimum isolation between case and output terminations is 100M Ohm @ 50 Vdc. Vibration is rated at ±20 g (under test) and shock at 50 g, 11 mS half sine (under test). The enclosure is IP65 or IP67 depending upon the electrical termination, and the unit is CE Compliant, meeting the industrial emissions and immunity standard IEC61326.

Four output types are available: 10 mV/V ratiometric on a 5 to 10 Vdc supply, 0 to 5 Vdc (supply 10 to 30 Vdc @ 10 mA), 0 to 10 Vdc (supply 15 to 30 Vdc @ 10 mA), and 4 to 20 mA (supply 9 to 30 Vdc; 9 to 20 Vdc above 105 degC).

The Tri-Grip fitting is rated to 600 psi using a suitable clamp, with over pressure of 4 x rated pressure to the maximum rated flange pressure and secondary containment of 6 x rated pressure to a maximum of 2000 psi (not in clamp). Pressure ranges span gage (10 inH2O to 600 psi), absolute (5 to 600 psi), compound gage (±10 inH2O to ±15 psi), vacuum/negative gage (0 to -10 inH2O to 0 to -15 psi) and barometric (0 to 32 inHg; 0 to 1100 hPa, 550 to 1100 hPa, 880 to 1100 hPa).

Configuration Options

Models are differentiated first by electrical termination, which also sets the enclosure protection:

  • PX409S — 2 m cable with flying leads, IP67 rating.
  • PX419S — mini DIN connector (mating connector supplied), IP67 rating absolute, IP65 rating gage.
  • PX429S — twist-lock connector (mating connector PT06F10-6S sold separately), IP67 rating absolute, IP65 rating gage.
  • PX459S — M12 connector (M12 cables sold separately), IP67 rating absolute, IP65 rating gage.

A conduit variant, PX409CS, replaces the cable with a 1/2 NPT conduit/cable fitting. Beyond termination, models differ by fitting size (15 = 1-1/2 in Tri-Grip, 20 = 2 in Tri-Grip), by output type (10 mV/V, 0 to 5 Vdc, 0 to 10 Vdc or 4 to 20 mA), and by pressure type (gage, absolute, compound gage, vacuum or barometric). The PXM409S metric variants provide ranges specified directly in bar, mbar and hPa rather than psi.

Key Product Differences

Each catalog number is assembled from the base series, a fitting-size code, a range code and an output suffix — for example PX409S15-005GV designates the 2 m cable termination, 1-1/2 in Tri-Grip fitting, and a gage 10 mV/V output. Output suffixes identify the pressure and signal type (for instance GV = gage 10 mV/V, AV = absolute 10 mV/V, CGV = compound gage, VV = vacuum, with the trailing I, 5V or 10V denoting 4 to 20 mA, 0 to 5 Vdc or 0 to 10 Vdc).

The termination-based model families are PX409S (cable), PX409CS (1/2 NPT conduit), PX419S (mini DIN), PX429S (twist-lock) and PX459S (M12), with a parallel PXM409S metric line.

Compatible meters include the DP41-S, DP41-E, DP41-B and DP25B-E. Documented accessories include the CX5302 extra mini DIN connector for the PX419 Series, the PT06F10-6S mating twist-lock connector for the PX429 Series, and the M12C-PVC-4-S-F-5 straight and M12C-PVC-4-R-F-5 right-angled M12 cables, each 5 m (16.4 ft) long, for the PX459.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Accurate and durable Great product very accurate and durable. However it is not a wise idea to press on the diaphragm. When our company first started using these the boss thought it would be a good idea for testing, the Sensor was damaged beyond repair immediately

The PX409S20-005VI can this unit be mounted with the Diaphragm facing up?

Asked by: Anonymous
Yes. You can mount the sensor with diaphragm facing up. You may see a slight zero offset occur when in this position. You should just be able zero you instrumentation to correct for the offset
