Supported Applications

The Omega LCFD and LCMFD series are subminiature tension or compression high accuracy load cells designed for precision industrial applications. These miniature inline sensors measure both tension and compression loads, featuring male thread studs for direct load attachment.

  • Precision force measurement in compact spaces
  • Applications requiring superior long-term stability
  • Situations where minimized off-axis load effects are critical

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series covers a broad capacity envelope ranging from 10 N to 5000 N (metric) and 2.2 lb to 1000 lb (standard). Accuracy is specified as ≤100 lb/500 N: ±0.15% FSO for lower capacities, and ≥250 lb/1000 N: ±0.20% FSO for higher ranges. Repeatability follows the same tiered structure: ≤2.2 lb: ±0.15% FSO; ≥5 lb/10 N: ±0.20% FSO.

Performance is maintained across an ambient operating temperature of 16 to 71°C (60 to 160°F) and a process temperature range of -54 to 121°C (-65 to 250°F). The units carry an IP65 enclosure rating. Electrical output varies by capacity: 2.2 lb/10 N models provide 1.5 mV/V (nom), while ≥5 lb/20 N models deliver 2 mV/V (nom).

Excitation Requirements

  • ≤10 lb/50 N: 5 Vdc
  • ≥25 lb/100 N: 10 Vdc

The load resistance is specified as a minimum of 350 Ω. Each unit includes a 5-point NIST-traceable calibration and a 59 kΩ shunt.

Configuration Options

The LCFD/LCMFD series offers standard (LCFD) and metric (LCMFD) model configurations to accommodate different capacity requirements. The housing is constructed from stainless steel, providing durability for industrial environments.

Process Connections & Dimensions

  • Thread types vary by capacity: #6-32 UNC (1 kg to 10 lb), M5 x 0.8 (10 to 50 N), #10-32 UNF (25 to 100 lb), M6 x 1.0 (100 to 500 N and 1 to 5 kN), and ¼-28 UNF (250 to 1000 lb).
  • Overall diameters range from 19 mm (0.75 in) for the smallest capacities up to 25.4 mm (1.00 in) for larger ranges.

Cable & Connector

Units are supplied with a 1.5 m (5') 4-conductor, shielded cable featuring an S.S. Strain Relief connector. The wire color code is Red (E+), White (S+), Black (E-), and Green (S-). Models ≤10 lb/50 N utilize SS overbraided PTFE with a temperature compensation board.

Accessories & Compatibility

  • Accessory Rod Ends: REC-006F, REC-010F, REC-014F (standard); MREC-M5F, MREC-M6F (metric).
  • Compatible Meters: DP41-S, DP25B-S, and DPiS.

Certifications

The series is compliant with NIST Standard and RoHS standards.

Key Product Differences

Variants are distinguished by capacity range and unit system. The LCFD models serve standard capacities (lb), while the LCMFD models address metric requirements (N). Specific model numbers correspond directly to capacity, such as LCFD-1KG for 1 kg or LCMFD-5KN for 5000 N.

  • LCFD Series: Capacities from 2.2 lb up to 1000 lb (e.g., LCFD-5, LCFD-1K).
  • LCMFD Series: Capacities from 10 N up to 5000 N (e.g., LCMFD-10N, LCMFD-5KN).

Note regarding compatible meters: The DPiS meter is suitable for one direction measurement only.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Load cell has the right features. Although the load cell is just right for our application, the company inventory management system is flawed. I waited a whole month for the product to enter inventory. Meanwhile, we were without data in a major part of our research project.

Does it work well with PLC without noises?? Do we need a specific omega amplifier for this or any amplifier will do ?

Asked by: Tibra
Thank you for this inquiry, this unit has a 2mv/V output. Most PLC systems require a amplified output of 0-5 volts or 4-20mA. You can search for Signal Conditioners on our site and choose the one that works best for your application.
