Supported Applications

The Omega NEP-TX series consists of Molten Metal Ceramic Sheath Thermocouple Probes with a Cast Iron Head, designed for non-ferrous molten metal applications. These probes are engineered for high wear or high impact environments and operate in processes involving aggressive aluminum lithium alloys.

The series is not recommended for caustic solutions or hydrofluoric acid. Preheating of the process is not necessary.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The NEP-TX series supports a measurement range up to 1250°C (2282°F). The probe features an OMEGATITE 650 ceramic sheath, described as an alloy of silicon nitride and aluminum oxide. This material provides non-wetting, gas-tight, chemically inert, corrosion-resistant properties, along with high temperature thermal shock resistance.

Standard construction includes a cast iron NEP-TX protection head and a 1¼ NPT mounting thread. The standard probe dimensions are an overall length of 475 mm (18.75 in), a sheath diameter of 28 mm (1.10 in), a stem length of 475 mm (18.75 in), and a head length of 127 mm (5 in) with a head diameter of 41.275 mm (1⅝ in).

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable options to meet specific installation requirements:

  • Sensor Calibration: Available in K and N thermocouple calibrations.
  • Dual Element Configuration: Add the suffix "-DUAL" to the model number for a dual element setup; this option adds $50 to the price.
  • Custom Probe Lengths: Custom lengths are available. To order in longer length, change the standard "-475" designation to the required length in mm (e.g., 1524).

The model number guide follows the format: NEP-TX-<Thermocouple Calibration>-PTRS-<Probe Length>-<Probe Diameter>. For example, a standard K-type probe is ordered as NEP-TX-K-PTRS-1628-475.

Key Product Differences

The series includes variants with different thermocouple calibrations and configurations. Standard models feature a single element, while the "-DUAL" suffix indicates a dual element configuration. The ceramic tube is packaged separately to avoid breakage during shipping; units are shipped unassembled.
