Supported Applications
The Omega Heavy Duty Handheld Surface Probes (Series SP-SURF-PROBES) are temperature measurement probes designed for portable surface and general-purpose sensing. The series provides rugged handheld solutions featuring SMPW miniature connectors, intended for use with compatible thermocouple instruments.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The probe assembly utilizes 1.8 m (6') PFA-coated lead wires constructed from 22 AWG stranded conductors with glass-on-glass insulation and a stainless steel overbraid. The sensor tip diameter is specified as 3.2 mm (0.13") OD for the standard configurations.
Configuration Options
The series supports six distinct probe styles to address different access requirements, available in Type J, K, and E thermocouple calibrations:
- Curved Surface Probe (SP-RL): Designed for curved surface applications.
- General Purpose Probe (SP-GP): Standard handheld configuration.
- Beaded Wire Probe (SP-BW): Exposed beaded wire element style.
- Right Angle Probe (SP-RA): 90-degree orientation for specific access needs.
- Surface Probe (SP-SP): Flat surface contact design.
- Needle Probe (SP-NP): Fine-point configuration.
Optional configurations include extension handles with black anodized aluminum grips in 100, 300, or 600 mm (4, 12, or 24") lengths. Specific variants are available trimmed to a lead resistance of 3.85 Ω for use with analog pyrometers.
Key Product Differences
Model numbers follow the format SP-[PROBE_TYPE]-[CALIBRATION]-6, where [PROBE_TYPE] identifies the style (RL, GP, BW, RA, SP, NP) and [CALIBRATION] specifies J, K, or E. The standard connector is an SMPW Miniature Connector; for analog pyrometer compatibility, the '6' suffix in the model number changes to '3.85'. Extension handles are ordered separately as SP-EH-4 (100 mm), SP-EH-12 (300 mm), or SP-EH-24 (600 mm).
