Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series HBV is a Hastelloy® C ball valve designed for automation requirements where direct mounting of pneumatic and electric actuators is required via an ISO 5211 mounting pad. The series incorporates a high-cycle, live-loaded stem packing system to support demanding process performance.
Documented service applications include gases, steam, and liquids compatible with the valve's wetted materials.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The Series HBV operates within a temperature range of -20 to 425°F (-29 to 218°C). The pressure rating is listed as 2000 psi (137.9 bar) and ASME B16.34 Class 900, with specific limits varying by temperature according to the Pressure/Temperature Chart for TFM seats.
Flow capacity varies by size model:
- HBV-M01 (1/4"): CV of 6
- HBV-M02 (3/8"): CV of 8
- HBV-M03 (1/2"): CV of 12
- HBV-M04 (3/4"): CV of 32
- HBV-M05 (1"): CV of 46
- HBV-M06 (1-1/4"): CV of 82
- HBV-M07 (1-1/2"): CV of 120
- HBV-M08 (2"): CV of 400
The valves are bi-directional and can be installed with flow in either direction.
Configuration Options
The series is offered in eight sizes ranging from 1/4 to 2 inches, identified by model numbers HBV-M01 through HBV-M08. All models feature Female NPT end connections and an ISO 5211 mounting pad.
Materials of Construction
Wetted Materials:
- Valve body, end caps, ball, and stem: ASTM 494 Type CW12MW (Hastelloy® C)
- Seat, body seal, and stem packing: TFM
Other Materials:
- Body bolt, gland washer, stem nut, space washer, and handle: 304 SS
- Handle cover: Vinyl
Key Product Differences
The primary variation across the series is size (1/4" to 2") which dictates flow coefficient (CV) and overall dimensions. The manual specifies that Series HBV valves are non-repairable; maintenance consists of occasional tightening of the packing gland nut if leakage occurs through the stem orifice.
Installation requires cleaning pipe ends to prevent debris damage, using a PTFE-based thread sealant on pipe threads, and utilizing a smooth wrench on the hex portion of the valve rather than the body. The handle is rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise to open and 90 degrees clockwise to close.
