Supported Applications

The SST Optomax Industrial Glass series consists of liquid level switches designed to detect the presence or absence of oil or water-based liquids. These optical sensors feature a corrosion-resistant 316L stainless steel housing with a hardened glass tip, making them suitable for harsh environments where compact size and wide operating ranges are required.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series operates across an ambient and process temperature range of -40°C to +125°C (-40°F to +257°F), with a storage temperature rating matching these limits. Pressure capabilities vary by housing thread configuration: M12x1, 1/2"-20 UNF, and 1/4" NPT housings support up to 100 bar / 1450 psi maximum, while the 1/2" NPT housing supports up to 600 bar / 8702 psi maximum. The overall probe dimensions are 39.6 mm (length) x Ø10.4 mm (diameter). Wetted materials include 316L Stainless steel and Glass.

Important operational constraints noted in the documentation state that these switches are not suitable for use in freezing liquids or high condensing environments such as steam. Users must ensure fluids are compatible with stainless steel and glass before installation.

Configuration Options

The Optomax Industrial Glass series offers extensive configuration options across mounting threads, electrical terminations, output logic, and supply voltages to accommodate diverse integration needs.

  • Housing Threads: Available in M12x1 (with hex nut), 1/2"-20 UNF (with O-ring), 1/4" NPT, and 1/2" NPT. Tightening torque for all threads is specified at a maximum of 3 Nm / 26.5 in-lbs.
  • Electrical Connections: Options include Flying Leads (20AWG 0.2mm), M12 4-pin male connector, or a 3m Cable.
  • Output Signals: Configurable as N-Type with flyback, N-Type with 10kΩ pull-up, standard N-Type, P-Type, or N&P Push Pull.
  • Power Supply: Supports either 4.5 VDC to 15.4 VDC (default) or 8 VDC to 30 VDC (code "24").
  • Output Logic: Selectable as Output Low in air (code "L") or Output High in air (blank).
  • Accessories: Seal washers are available in Nitrile, EPDM, and VAMAC. Additional accessories include Zinc-Plated Brass nuts, Stainless Steel nuts, PTFE sealing tape for 1/4" NPT threads, and compatible sealing compounds.

The series does not include a single universal configuration but rather relies on these selectable parameters to define each specific unit.
