Supported Applications
The Omega FMA1700A and FMA1800A series are economical gas mass flow meters designed for measuring clean gases. The product overview specifies these devices are intended for applications requiring the measurement of gas flow rates, with a digital display option available on specific models.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The FMA1700A/1800A series operates within an ambient and process temperature range of 0 to 50°C (0 to 122°F). Accuracy is specified as ±1.5% of full scale, including linearity over 15 to 25°C and 5 to 60 psia (0.35 to 4.2 kg/cm²), with a repeatability of ±0.5% of full scale for units ≥100 sccm from 0 to 20% of range.
Performance characteristics include:
- Response Time: 800 msec time constant; 2 seconds (typical) to within ±2% of set flow rate over 25 to 100% of full scale
- Temperature Coefficient: 0.15% of full scale per °C or better
- Pressure Coefficient: 0.01% of full scale per psi (0.07 bar)
- Leak Integrity: 1 x 10⁻⁷ std cc/sec of helium maximum to outside environment
The series supports a measurement range from 10 SCCM to 1000 SLM. Maximum gas pressure is rated at 500 psig (35 kg/cm² gage), with 1000 psig (70 kg/cm² gage) available for ranges up to 100 SLM; the optimum operating pressure is noted as 20 psig.
Configuration Options
The series offers configurable options across body materials, display integration, and output signals. Models are designated by a range code corresponding to maximum flow rates from 10 sccm up to 1000 SLM.
- Housing Materials: Available in Economical Aluminum or Corrosion-Resistant 316 SS
- Wetted Materials (Aluminum Models): Anodized aluminum, 316 SS, brass and FKM O-rings
- Process Connections: Compression fittings are standard; the 1000 SLM model includes dual ¾ FNPT connections instead of compression fittings.
- Electrical Connection: Female 9-pin D-connector with 1 m (3') of ribbon cable
- Output Signals: Configurable for 0 to 5 Vdc or 4 to 20 mA output via specific connector options.
- Power Supply: Requires 12 to 26 Vdc power @ 200 mA maximum. Socket plug-in power supplies (FMA178PW) and portable battery packs are available as accessories.
The series supports custom calibration for gases other than nitrogen or air by adding the gas abbreviation and pressure as a suffix to the model number. Oxygen cleaned units are available with the "-02CLEAN" suffix.
Key Product Differences
The FMA1700A/1800A series is divided into two primary families based on display integration and body material:
- FMA1800 Series (With Display): Models such as FMA1802A include an integral LCD. Remote mounting of the LCD is supported via accessory cables: 3 m (10') or 7.6 m (25'). Stainless steel variants are designated with "-ST" suffixes.
- FMA1700 Series (Without Display): Models such as FMA1702A provide flow measurement without an integral display, relying on external readout or signal processing. These also offer aluminum and stainless steel body options.
Model numbers follow the pattern FMA[Series][Range Code](-ST), where the range code (e.g., 02 for 10 sccm, 45 for 1000 SLM) defines the maximum flow capacity. Accessories include specific power supplies for 115 Vac or 220 Vac and battery packs with rechargers.

Gas Flow Meter
This flow meter was well packaged, was easy to setup and worked as advertised. Would reccomend this FM to anyone looking for a precise mass flow measurement. Just make sure you only use it with dry air!

Mass flow meter
Well worth the price, works as well as units much more expensive. Will have to see how it does in the duration department.

We have purchased model FMA1844A. We are looking for instructions to change the display for showing a decimal place.
Sent in question to the email address and recieve automatically generated help desk tickets #00497016 and #00505210. I have never recieved a response to either one. Please be wary of purchasing a product from a company that has NO customer service!

What is the difference between the 1800 and 1800A series flowmeters?
The main difference is the power supply. FMA1800A has range 12-26 VDC for input power supply. The FMA1800 can only take 12 VDC.

For the 1700a/1800a series, is there a way to hook up the flow meter (using the serial port) to a computer to export the digital output in order to be able to plot the flow data over time (i.s- use a program such as excel)?
No. The FMA1700/1800A series do not have serial communication output. They need a module to have RS232 or RS485 communication. Review module FMI series https://br.omega.com/omegaFiles/green/pdf/FMI-100.pdf

Can I buy the display for these separately?
Thank you for your inquiry about the mass flow meter. Yes, you may purchase a display separately if you currently have a meter without a display. You may email flow@omega.com to provide the exact mass flow meter part number and can prepare a quote.

What is the difference between FMA1844 and FMA1844A?
Thank you for your inquiry! The FMA1844A is the newer version of the FMA1844. Most parameters are the same but the FMA1844A units accept 12-26VDC. The older models had a 12 and 24 VDC option.

In the manual on page 28 titled "Dimensioned Drawings," dimension "J" for the screw sizes/threads is missing from the table, and no screw hole-to-hole distance perpendicular to "G" is provided. Would you update the manual with these dimensions?
Thank you for your inquiry! The "J" dimension can vary based on the specific model number selected. Please email us at flow@omega.com so that we can provide the dimensions for your exact model.

I do not see Cv provided. How would I find the Cv of the flow meter?
Thank you for your inquiry about the Mass Flow Meter. Unfortunately, there is no Cv factor associated with mass flow meters, it is limited to solenoid valves.
