Supported Applications

The Omega Fuel Cell Interconnect Wire series with Nextel Insulation is engineered for custom wire and sleeving solutions in fuel cell applications. The product line specifically addresses Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) environments, providing interconnect wiring designed to operate under high-temperature conditions as well as oxidizing and reducing atmospheres.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series is rated for process temperatures up to 1335°C (2440°F), with specific measurement ranges documented from 850 to 1100°C (1562 to 2012°F). The wire construction utilizes OMEGA N® conductor materials and Braided NexTel® insulation, selected for low temperature drift and proven long-term stability. Wetted materials include OMEGA N®, OMEGALLOY®, and NexTel®.

Performance Characteristics

  • Temperature Range: 850 to 1100°C (1562 to 2012°F) measurement range; up to 1335°C (2440°F) operating limit.
  • Stability: Low temperature drift and proven long-term stability.

Configuration Options

The series supports a configurable envelope of insulation configurations, conductor materials, wire geometries, and overall dimensions. While specific SKUs represent stocked lengths (e.g., 100 ft), the full series offers custom continuous lengths subject to minimum order requirements.

Insulation & Conductor Configurations

  • Braided NexTel®: Standard insulation for single round, flat, star-formed, and corrugated formed wire designs (e.g., XT-NN-24-*).
  • Wrapped and Braided NexTel 3000V High Pot Performance Test: Available in wrapped configurations (XTW-XT-NN-24-*).
  • Dual Wire Configurations: Individually NexTel braided wires with a NexTel overbraid for two individual round formed wires (XT-NN-NN-24-*).

Conductor Materials & Geometries

  • Standard Material: OMEGA N®.
  • Alternative Alloys: Additional conductor materials are available by replacing the "NN" designation with alloy codes such as NP (Omega P®), CSS (custom stainless steel for high-temperature fuel cells), or PLN (nickel core platinum coated).
  • Wire Forms: Single round formed wire, single flat formed wire, single star-formed wire, and single corrugated formed wire.

Sleeving & Accessories

  • Braided XC Sleeving: Available in various inner/outer diameters (e.g., 1.57 ID x 2.3 mm OD, 9.5 ID x 10.6 mm OD) and stocked lengths of 10, 25, 50, and 100 ft.
  • Probes: Super OMEGACLAD XL® temperature sensors are offered with CHROMEGA®-ALOMEGA® or OMEGA-P®-OMEGA-N® sheaths in diameters from 0.010" to 0.125", featuring Grounded (G), Exposed (E), or Ungrounded (U) junction types.
  • Hardware: Universal connector and clamp, female connector hardware, and wire clamps are included as options.

Ordering Constraints

A minimum 100-foot order is required for wire-based products. Long continuous lengths are available upon consultation with sales engineering.

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes between single-wire interconnects and dual-wire assemblies, as well as different insulation architectures (braided vs. wrapped/braided). Model numbers follow a structured guide indicating Insulation Configuration, Conductor Material, Conductor Configuration, Dimensions, and Overall Dimensions.

Model Families

  • XT-NN-*: Braided NexTel® with OMEGA N® conductor in round (24 AWG), flat, star-formed, or corrugated configurations.
  • XTW-XT-NN-*: Wrapped and braided insulation for high-pot performance testing applications.
  • XT-NN-NN-*: Dual-wire assemblies with individual braiding plus an overbraid.
  • XC-*: Braided NexTel® sleeving without wire, available in specific ID/OD dimensions (e.g., XC-116, XC-38).

Note: The star-formed (STR) configuration cannot be reduced in diameter but can be increased. Probes with 0.032" diameter and larger are supplied with molded transition joints; smaller probes use stainless steel transition joints.
