Supported Applications

The HH520 is a four-channel handheld data logger thermometer for measuring and recording temperature with Type J, K, T and E thermocouples. With a large backlit display, T1-T2 differential function, temperature alarm, data hold and min/max/avg recording, it suits field and bench work in HVAC, laboratory and general process temperature monitoring.

It logs up to 16,000 points per channel and recalls up to 100 sets of manual readings. A USB interface with included Windows software transfers data to a PC, where files can be saved as .ghf, .txt or .csv for use in spreadsheet and word-processing applications.

Operating Conditions & Performance

Accuracy is ±(0.1% rdg + 0.7°C) between 18 to 28°C (64 to 82°F) and ±(0.4% rdg + 0.7°C) below -100°C (-148°F), with a temperature coefficient of 0.01% of reading + 0.05°C per °C outside the 18 to 28°C band. Resolution is 0.1°C below 600°C and 1.0°C at or above 600°C. The sample rate is 2 samples/sec and input protection is 30 Vrms max.

The logger runs on four 1.5 V "AAA" batteries for approximately 100 hrs, or on external power through the USB interface. It operates from 0 to 50°C (32 to 122°F) at 10 to 90% RH non-condensing and stores from -20 to 60°C (-4 to 140°F) at 10 to 75% RH. It measures 187 mm (H) x 75 mm (W) x 29 mm (D) and weighs 290 g. The instrument is CE and RoHS marked with a 1 year warranty.

Configuration Options

The HH520 is offered as a single model whose flexibility comes from the four thermocouple types it accepts, each with its own usable span:

 • Type K: -200 to 1372°C (-328 to 2501°F)
 • Type J: -200 to 1000°C (-328 to 1832°F)
 • Type E: -200 to 750°C (-328 to 1382°F)
 • Type T: -200 to 400°C (-328 to 752°F)

All four inputs share the same accuracy, resolution and logging behavior, so the choice of thermocouple type simply extends or limits the measurable range.

Key Product Differences

The series consists of a single model, the HH520, a four-channel Type J/K/T/E thermocouple data logger with USB output. It ships complete with four beaded wire Type K thermocouples, four 1.5 V "AAA" batteries, Windows software on CD, a USB cable, a hard carrying case and an operator's manual.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Value and practical Value and practical. In stock and prompt delivery. Software may need one more option on grid layout: such as smaller checker board squares on the background to identify data point location. A longer USB cable would be better. On Windows XP, each time the logger is manually powered off and on again and then the hardware driver is automatically installed while USB was plugged in, but need to uninstall and install it again one more time to avoid installation issue. This would need to state in the manual.

Would the rated sampling rate (Sample Rate: 2 samples/sec = 2Hz) applied to all 4 channel at the same time? if less than all 4 is used, can I increase the sampling rate?

Asked by: AnhT
The channels would measure sequentially so using 1 channel will achieve the 2 Hz rate and if the other channels are measuring it would need to have all used channels completed before the next measurement is made on the first channel. There isn't any way to adjust the sampling rate.

How often does it require a calibration according to the manufacturer? Does it last for one year or more?

Asked by: Yigal
There is no defined time period how long a calibration will remain valid. It is recommended to do a re-calibration at least once per year.

What advantage does this new 4-channel unit have over the older OM-HL-EH-TC 8-channel ?? What makes it worth $50 more ??

Asked by: Silver Wizard
Thank you for your inquiry. Biggest advantage of the HH520 is the accuracy spec; HH520 Accuracy is specified for ambient temperatures between 18°C (64°F) and 28°C (82°F). The specifications do not include thermocouple sensor error. ± (0.1% of reading+0.7°C) OM-HL-EH-TC ± ( 0.8 C + 0.2 % Reading ) Best regards RS
