Supported Applications

The Omega EchoPulse® LR15 Series is a general-purpose, two-wire pulse radar level transmitter designed for continuous liquid level measurement in above or below grade tanks. The series operates by emitting microwave pulses and measuring the time of flight to provide a proportional current output.

Documented applications include:

  • Petroleum storage
  • Water processing, lift stations, storm water, and sump process conditions
  • Diluted chemical storage or process applications with low or non-corrosive media
  • Bulk storage tanks and tanker trucks
  • Process tanks including waste sumps and neutralization tanks
  • Tanks experiencing light foam, agitation, condensation, or vapor conditions

Operating Conditions & Performance

The LR15 Series provides a measurement range of 12" to 98.4' (30cm to 30m) with an accuracy of ± 3mm and a resolution of 1 mm. The sensor operates at a frequency of 26 GHz.

Performance specifications include:

  • Process Temperature: F: -76° to 302°, C: -60° to 150°
  • Storage Temperature: F: -40° to 176°, C: -40° to 80°
  • Process Pressure: -14.5 to 150 psi (-1 to 10 bar)
  • Dead Band: Factory set at 12" (30cm); can be lowered to 2" from the bottom of the antenna
  • Enclosure Rating: IP67 with an aluminum housing and silicone gasket
  • Power Supply: 16-26 VDC, maximum consumption 22.5 mA

The series supports a fail-safe output setting of 3.9 mA, 20.5 mA, or 22 mA.

Configuration Options

The LR15 Series is configurable across antenna sizes to optimize beam angle for specific tank geometries and installation requirements. The standard process connection is a 1-1/2" NPT thread.

  • Antenna Options:
    • -20: 2" (48mm) horn, 18° beam angle
    • -30: 3" (78mm) horn, 12° beam angle
    • -40: 4" (98mm) horn, 8° beam angle
  • Wetted Material: Antenna constructed of 316L stainless steel.
  • Housing & Electrical Connection: Aluminum enclosure with polycarbonate window. Conduit entrance includes (1) ½" NPT connector and (1) M20 x 1.5 plug.
  • Output Signal: 4-20 mA, two-wire; configurable for inverted signal (4-20 mA, 20-4 mA).

The series supports optional mounting accessories including reducer bushings and ANSI flanges to adapt the standard NPT connection. Available fittings include:

  • Reducer Bushings: PVC schedule 40/80 (LM53-2400, LM53-2800, LM53-3800) and 316 stainless steel (LM53-2S10).
  • ANSI Flanges: Available in 3", 4", and 6" sizes for both 316 stainless steel (SS: LM53-3S50, LM53-4S50, LM53-6S50) and CPVC schedule 80 (LM53-3850, LM53-4850, LM53-6850).

Key Product Differences

The primary variation within the LR15 Series is defined by the antenna size code in the model number (e.g., -20, -30, -40), which dictates the beam angle and physical dimensions of the sensor head.

  • LR15-...-20: Features a 2" (48mm) horn with an antenna length of 5.51" (140mm).
  • LR15-...-30: Features a 3" (78mm) horn with an antenna length of 8.94" (227mm).
  • LR15-...-40: Features a 4" (98mm) horn with an antenna length of 11.34" (288mm).

The series includes integral configuration via a push-button display module featuring an LCD dot matrix screen that displays units in feet and meters, percent of span bar graph, and echo signal curve.
