Supported Applications
The Series V7 Flotect® Flow Switch is designed for use with compatible liquids to start or stop electronically operated equipment when flow or no-flow conditions occur. The series identity emphasizes magnetic operation without mechanical linkages or seals that can wear or leak, making it suitable for applications requiring robust vane design and field trimmable set point adjustment.
Documented application contexts include:
- Liquids compatible with wetted materials that are non-coating and non-crystallizing
- Boilers and pumps (as indicated in series title)
Operating Conditions & Performance
The Series V7 operates within a process temperature range of -40 to 250°F (-40 to 121°C) with an ambient operating temperature limit of 181°F (83°C). The unit is rated for pressures up to 250 psi (17.2 bar).
Performance characteristics are defined by approximate actuation and deactuation flow rates, which vary based on pipe size and vane configuration. For cold water in standard tees (except the four-inch model installed in a 4" x 1" pipe saddle), documented GPM values include:
- 1" NPT: Actuate 7.5 (28.4 LPM) / Deactuate 6.8 (25.7 LPM)
- 1-1/4" NPT: Actuate 8.1 (30.8 LPM) / Deactuate 7.6 (28.9 LPM)
- 1-1/2" NPT: Actuate 11.7 (44.1 LPM) / Deactuate 10.9 (41.3 LPM)
- 2" NPT: Actuate 16.9 (64.0 LPM) / Deactuate 15.6 (59.1 LPM)
- 3" NPT: Actuate 31.6 (120 LPM) / Deactuate 29.6 (112 LPM)
- 4" NPT: Actuate 58.0 (218 LPM) / Deactuate 52.0 (197 LPM)
Note that flow rates are nominal values based on horizontal pipe runs and installation in standard tees.
Configuration Options
The series supports configurable construction, lower body materials, circuit types, connection sizes, vane sizes, tee options, and special accessories. The model number guide follows the format: V7 - <CONSTRUCTION> - <LOWER BODY> - <CIRCUIT TYPE> - <CONNECTION SIZE> - <VANE SIZE> - <TEE & TEE MATERIAL> - <OPTIONS>.
Key configurable dimensions and options include:
- Construction Code: W (Weatherproof)
- Lower Body Material: B (Brass) or S (316 SS)
- Circuit Type: S (SPDT snap switch with common, normally open, and normally closed terminals)
- Connection Size: 3 (1" male NPT process connection; other sizes available per flow rate tables up to 4")
- Vane Size: 0 (Full length vane with template for trimming); additional codes a through o denote specific trimmed lengths or configurations.
- Tee & Tee Material: N (No Tee)
- Options: ST (SS tag), RV (Reinforced vane)
The enclosure meets NEMA 4X (IP66) weatherproof ratings. Wetted materials include a 301 SS vane, brass or 316 SS process connection, ceramic magnet, and other components in 301/302 SS.
Key Product Differences
The Series V7 is offered with different lower body materials to suit media compatibility needs: Brass (code B) or 316 Stainless Steel (code S). The housing material is die cast aluminum across the series. Electrical connections are provided via a 3 screw type terminal block for common, normally open, and normally closed outputs.
Dimensional variations occur primarily in Dimension A based on pipe size:
- 1" Pipe: Dim A = 1-17/64 [32.15]
- 1-1/4" Pipe: Dim A = 1-19/32 [40.48]
- 1-1/2" Pipe: Dim A = 1-53/64 [46.43]
- 2", 3", and 4" Pipes: Dim A = 2-11/64 [55.17]
The unit must be mounted perpendicular to the flow, and when bushings are used, they require back drilling to allow proper clearance with a bore I.D. of 1" (25 mm) leaving internal threads 9/16" (14 mm) high.
