Supported Applications
The Omega STH, SST, and SWH series comprises ultra-high temperature flexible heating tapes designed for maximum exposure up to 760°C (1400°F). These heaters are constructed with premium quality Samox™ insulation and fine gage stranded resistance wires. Operating Conditions & Performance
The series is rated for maximum exposure temperatures of 1400°F (760°C). Standard, Heavy Insulated, and Wide High Temperature configurations utilize Samox™ yarn or cloth as the outer sheath material. Power supply options include 120 VAC and 240 VAC versions; all 240V models are supplied without plugs. The series supports various watt densities depending on insulation type: Heavy Insulated Tapes (STH) offer approximately 13 W/in², Standard Insulated Tapes (SST) provide 13 W/in², and Wide Heavy Insulated Tapes (SWH) range from 7.5 to 8.0 W/in².
Electrical connections feature an integrally molded separate plug for standard configurations, with lead wires emerging from opposite ends of the tape into separate sides of the plug. A critical operational requirement is that these heaters must be connected to an external control device and should not be operated without some form of temperature control. The series includes warnings against immersion in liquid, use in hazardous locations, or operation at temperatures above the rated value.
Configuration Options
The STH-SST-SWH series offers configurable dimensions across three primary construction types:
- SST Series (Standard Insulated): Fine gage stranded resistance wires double insulated with braided Samox and knitted into flat tapes. Suitable for non-conductive surfaces.
- STH Series (Heavy Insulated): Standard tape braided between layers of Samox yarn, suitable for direct contact on conductive surfaces in laboratory settings.
- SWH Series (Wide Heavy Insulated): Constructed from two or more standard tapes sewn between two layers of Samox cloth. Available widths include 1⅜", 2½", and 3¼" with lengths ranging up to 8' for 120V models.
Electrical Configuration Options:
- Voltage: 120 VAC or 240 VAC (change '1' before '2' in model number to '2').
- Lead Exit: Standard opposite ends; add suffix LSE for leads exiting the same end.
- Plug Configuration: Integrally molded separate plug included on 120V models (subject to specific variant); all 240V versions supplied without plugs.
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes between Standard Insulated (SST), Heavy Insulated (STH), and Wide Heavy Insulated (SWH) constructions based on insulation thickness and suitability for conductive surfaces. SST tapes are not recommended for metal or conductive surfaces, whereas STH and SWH heavy insulated variants are documented as suitable for direct contact on such surfaces in laboratory applications.
Model numbering follows the pattern Series-Size-Voltage-Watts. For example, a ½" x 2' tape at 120V is designated STH051-020 (Heavy) or SST051-020 (Standard). Wide tapes utilize different size codes such as SWH171 for 1⅜" width and SWH351 for 3¼" width. The 'LSE' suffix indicates a configuration where power leads exit the same end of the tape, differing from the standard opposite-end lead arrangement.

awesome heat conduction
We bought this product for my cousin in SA. He has a mechanical seals manufacturing business. The only way to make a permanent seal is with heat...we could not find a more effective product with awesome heat conduction for this purpose. It works like magic.

Dies early and often, even at 1/4 of rated power.
Pretty expensive for something so fragile. Even run at 1/4 of total rated power, these only seem to last about 1 year.

Is 1400F (760C) mean reusable temperature or one-time?
The Heater tape will have to be attached to a Thermally Conductive surface across it's full length. What temperature that can be reached will depend on the Thermal mass and the Wattage of the specific Heater Tape. Once in place it is best to leave it in place as there will be some embrittlement. Running the Heater at full Voltage and power will reduce its expected useful life.

Can Ultra-High Temperature Heating Tape be used to heat a pipe will be buried under ground?
The Ultra-High Heating tape is not recommended for underground or wet environments. Look at self regulating or constant Wattage Heater tapes as a possible alternative.

What is a reliable temperature controller to use with heating tapes (Heating Tape STH051-080 for example? I am currently using an obsolete CN 9111A controller. These controllers worked fine but did not last very long (Mechanical relay and not SSR).

Hello! what is the difference between 120 or 240 volts? the size of the wire or its just the 240 volts does not come with a connector (model SST051-040) THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME

Is the fiberglass insulation enough to prevent electrical shorting on conductive surfaces?
The Fiberglass insulation on the STH and SWH models provides the electrical insulation needed to be able to be use them on conductive surfaces.
