Supported Applications
The Omega OMEGALUX® FGR Series Fiberglass Heater Rope is designed to apply heat to tubing with diameters as small as 3.2 mm (1/8"). These rope heaters can be wrapped around either conductive or non-conductive surfaces.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series features a maximum allowable operating temperature of 482°C (900°F). Teflon sleeves at the ends are rated to 500°F. The standard diameter is 5 mm (3/16"). Linear wattage is specified as 4 Watts/inch in the primary data sheet specifications.
Configuration Options
The FGR Series offers configurable lengths and voltage options:
- Heater Lengths: Available in 0.9, 1.8, 2.4 or 3.0 m (3, 6, 8 or 10').
- Voltage Options: Standard models operate on 120 Vac or Vdc; 240V is optional.
- Termination: Each end terminates with a 609 mm (24") long fiberglass-insulated lead wire featuring stripped leads.
The series supports the following model configurations based on length and wattage at 120 Volts: FGR-030: 0.9 m (3'), 125 Watts FGR-060: 1.8 m (6'), 250 Watts FGR-080: 2.4 m (8'), 400 Watts FGR-100: 3.0 m (10'), 500 Watts
Key Product Differences
The series includes specific operational constraints and safety requirements documented in the source materials:
- These units are not moisture-resistant, do not resist vapor or chemicals, and may not be immersed in liquids.
- Do not fold, wrap, or overlap the heaters during installation.
- A method of controlling or limiting exposure temperature (such as variable transformers or digital temperature controllers) must always be used.
- When heating metal surfaces, proper grounding procedures should be observed for safety precautions.

Good product
These heater ropes are ideal for small bore tube, they heat quickly and are very flexible which is good for complicated tubing layouts. Just be careful not to pull it too tight.

Rope Heater
Great option for metal pipes that require heating to high temperatures. Requires some wiring & a variable AC transformer to adjust the temperature.

Heated up really faster than I expected
If it were not for the leads being at opposite ends the heater worked very good.

What is the expected lifetime of the OMEGALUX™ Rope Heaters FGR-030?
Thank you for your inquiry with Omega.
It is an application dependent product. There is not an expected lifetime specification for our rope heaters.

We like the FGR-030 rope heater. In a smaller application I am wondering if I can get an 18" variety. The 36" needs to be wond around other things and it gets kind of messy. We go through about a dozen a year.
The 18" Rope Heater is not presently offered and would be a custom application. Contact Omega's Heater group at heaters@omega.com for details about custom product criteria.

Hello, do I just plug this into a wall? Do I need to buy something else as well to make this heater work?
Thank you for your inquiry. This requires a temperature controller or thermostat. Please contact OMEGA directly at heaters@omega.com for suggestions.
