Supported Applications

The Omega Excelon® Oil Removing Filters, F72C Series (including F73C and F74C variants), are coalescing filters designed for in-line or modular installation to provide high-efficiency oil and particle removal from compressed air. These units feature a standard visual service life indicator that turns from green to red when the filter element requires replacement.

Modular installations with Excelon 72, 73, and 74 Series can be customized for specific applications. The series is RoHS and UL compliant.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The filters are rated for compressed air service with a particle removal capability of 0.01 µm. Maximum flow performance is specified at an inlet pressure of 6.3 bar (90 psig) to maintain stated oil removal performance.

  • Maximum Pressure: Transparent Bowl: Manual or Semiautomatic Drain, 10 bar (150 psig); Automatic Drain, 8 bar (116 psig). Metal Bowl: Manual or Semiautomatic Drain, 17 bar (250 psig); Automatic Drain, 8 bar (116 psig).
  • Operating Temperature: Transparent Bowl, -34 to 50°C (-30 to 125°F). Metal Bowl, -34 to 65°C (-30 to 150°F).

Air supply must be dry enough to avoid ice formation at temperatures below 2°C (35°F).

Configuration Options

The series supports multiple configurations across the F72C, F73C, and F74C families. The model number guide follows the format: F72C-<PORT SIZE>-<DRAIN TYPE>-<BOWL TYPE>.

  • Port Sizes: ¼", ⅜", ½", and ¾".
  • Bowl Types: Transparent (Polycarbonate) or Metal. Metal bowls include a liquid level indicator with a transparent nylon lens.
  • Drain Options: Manual, Semiautomatic, or Automatic drains are available depending on the bowl type and pressure rating requirements.
  • Housing Materials: F72C bodies utilize Zinc; F73C and F74C bodies use Aluminum. Transparent bowls feature a Polycarbonate construction with an optional steel guard for larger sizes.
  • Wetted Parts: Elements consist of synthetic fiber and polyurethane foam. Elastomers include Neoprene and Nitrile. Service life indicator internal parts are Acetal, with Stainless steel springs.

Available accessories include wall mounting brackets (bracket only), pipe adaptors (NPT threads in ¼", ⅜", ½", and ¾" sizes), Quickclamp® fittings, and combined Quickclamp® and wall bracket assemblies. Replacement filter elements are available for F72C, F73C, F74C, and F74H models.

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes between standard flow and high-flow configurations based on the model family:

  • F72C Series: Standard flow; ¼" port size. Body material is Zinc with a transparent or metal bowl option.
  • F73C Series: Standard flow; ⅜" port size. Body material is Aluminum.
  • F74C Series: Standard flow; ½" port size. Body material is Aluminum.
  • F74H Series: High flow configuration available in ½" and ¾" port sizes with increased SCFM capacity compared to standard F74C models.

Differences between Auto and Manual drain types affect overall dimensions (A, B) and maximum pressure ratings for transparent bowls. Metal bowl configurations maintain a higher manual/semiautomatic pressure rating of 17 bar (250 psig) compared to the 10 bar (150 psig) limit for transparent bowls with similar drains.
