Supported Applications
The Omega FL9000-AC Series consists of rugged, low-cost variable area flow meters designed for instantaneous visual measurement of liquid flow in closed piping systems. These piston-type devices provide direct reading without requiring electrical connections for the primary meter operation. The series includes an externally mounted adjustable flow alarm that can automatically open or close AC electrical circuits to activate warning lights, bells, pumps, or other process control equipment.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The FL9000-AC Series delivers a measurement accuracy of ±5% FS with repeatability of ±1%. The meters operate within a process temperature range of +32 °F to +250 °F (0 °C to +121 °C). For units equipped with Type 1 PVC fittings, the operating temperature is limited to +32 °F to +140 °F (0 °C to +60 °C). The maximum pressure rating for the series is 325 PSI (22.4 bar); meters with Type 1 PVC fittings are subject to normal PVC system ratings.
Calibration fluids specified in the documentation include Oil (0.876 specific gravity, 32 cSt viscosity) and Water (1.0 specific gravity, 1.0 cSt viscosity). The relay component is rated for an ambient temperature of up to 70°C (158°F).
Configuration Options
The series supports a wide range of flow rates depending on the piston type and connection configuration:
- Oil (Std Piston): Ranges from 0.5 to 4 GPM up to 4.0 to 28 GPM.
- Water (Std Piston): Ranges from 0.5 to 4 GPM up to 4.0 to 28 GPM.
The meters are available in multiple sizes and connection types, including:
- NPT ANSI/ASME B1.20.1: Available in Brass (¾" Male) and Polysulfone (1" Male).
- Sweat Fittings: ¾" and 1 Nominal Brass Sweat.
- Socket Weld: PVC options for various nominal sizes.
The adjustable flow alarm features a latching relay circuit housed in a sealed polypropylene enclosure. The mating connector is included with the unit, and the relay is field replaceable. Power supply ratings vary by model suffix: -DC models support 1 A @ 30 Vdc (resistive load), while -AC models support 0.5 A @ 125 Vac.
Wetted materials include Polysulfone or Radel® for the body, piston, and cone; T300 Stainless Steel for the spring; PH15-7MO Stainless Steel for retaining rings; Buna-N for seals and indicator rings; and C360 Brass, PVC, or T303 Stainless Steel for fittings. Non-wetted materials include Polypropylene limit indicators and Polyester scales.
Key Product Differences
The FL9000-AC Series is distinguished by its integration of an adjustable flow alarm with the variable area meter body, whereas standard models in this family may lack electrical output capabilities. Model numbers follow a specific structure: FL--AC. For example, FL9004-AC denotes a water application with a 0.5 to 4 GPM range and an AC alarm.
Variants are differentiated by media type (Oil vs. Water), flow range, and connection style:
- Polysulfone Body Models: Typically feature 1" Male NPT connections with lengths of 5.25 in (133.3 mm).
- Brass Sweat Fitting Models: Available for ¾" and 1 Nominal tubing, often used for copper pipe applications.
- PVC Socket Weld Models: Offered in larger nominal sizes with specific length dimensions ranging from 8.46 in (214.9 mm) to 12.72 in (323.1 mm).
The series offers both AC and DC relay options; units requiring a DC rated relay replace the "-AC" suffix with "-DC" at no additional cost.
