Supported Applications
The EA-XP Series is the Easidew PRO XP explosion-proof moisture transmitter from Michell Instruments, engineered to measure dew point and moisture content in gases and, in configured versions, in liquids. Its flameproof housing and global hazardous-area certification make it suited to demanding process environments where a spark or hot surface cannot be tolerated.
Typical duties include natural gas processing and transmission, hydrogen and inert or bulk gas systems, biomethane and CNG production, LNG and LPG production, and hydrocarbon refinery processing. Because moisture directly affects product quality, pipeline integrity, and catalyst life, the EA-XP gives plant operators a rugged, certified way to monitor dryness continuously in these applications.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The EA-XP measures dew point over a range of -110 to +20 °C (-166 to +68 °F), resolving readings to 0.1 °C / 0.1 °F with a repeatability of ±0.5 °C. Accuracy is ±1 °C (±1.8 °F) across the warmer band and ±2 °C (±3.6 °F) at the driest dew points, with a fast response of less than 10 seconds to T90.
The transmitter provides a 4 to 20 mA output alongside a 0 to 10 V signal and RS485 Modbus RTU communications, and it is powered from 10 to 30 VDC into a load of up to 0 to 600 Ω. It withstands process pressures from 0 to 100 bar with a burst rating of 300 bar, and its wetted parts use 316L stainless steel with PTFE and elastomer seals.
Built for the field, the EA-XP carries an IP66 / NEMA 4X enclosure and tolerates vibration from 5 to 2000 Hz and shock of up to 11 ms duration. It operates over a process range of -40 to +150 °C, an ambient range of -40 to +70 °C, and storage to -40 to +85 °C. Global hazardous-area approvals include ATEX, IECEx, UKCA, and cQPSus for North America.
Configuration Options
The EA-XP is a configure-to-order transmitter: a single parent code is completed with letter-based feature selections so the instrument matches the installation. The configurable axes are:
- Display — supplied with no display or with an integral display for local reading.
- Protection — a stainless-steel sintered guard for fine particulates or a standard HDPE guard.
- Sampling — no sample block, or a stainless-steel sample block with a 3/4" UNF sensor connection.
- Bracket — no bracket or a pipe-mounting bracket.
- Housing — aluminum (certified for ATEX/IECEx/UKCA and cQPSus Class & Div, Class Zones) or 316 stainless steel.
- Range — a -110 to +20°C or -100 to +20°C dew-point range, or a non-standard configured range.
- Oxygen cleaning — standard, or cleaned for oxygen service where required.
- Material certificates — added when required, ordered as a separate line item.
The most visible capability difference is the display option, historically split as the EX1 (no display) and EX2 (with display) variants, while the housing choice between aluminum and 316 stainless steel governs weight and certification coverage.

Under the earlier ordering system, the base model was designated EA-XP-TX (Easidew PRO XP for gases), with the display feature ordered as EX1 or EX2. Across every configuration the core sensor and explosion-proof platform stay the same — the model number simply records the chosen display, guard, sampling, bracket, housing, range, oxygen-cleaning, and certification options.
